Chupacabra Campfire [Late Afternoon]

Being inside the cabin means he can't run away should anyway try to tease him. Being outside, at least, means he can try and run away. Still, it's not like either option is good.

ONE WEEK.

He's been here one week and already he's made a gigantic fool of himself. He didn't even know who Siegfried and Roy were. And he told Luke waaaaaaaay too much. And thought the droid was a tiger.

He pulled a jacket over his head and tried to hide...in plain sight.

"I don't read Chinese at all," Vi said apologetically. "And all I speak is, //Stop hogging the bathroom, Chao-Ahn//." She shrugged. "Chinese housemate. Not from another planet, but the book sounds interesting."

Inara laughed, "I can see how that phrase would be useful. And it is, but I'm just starting it, so I can't tell you that much. The legends of Earth-that-was are...well, they're certainly creative. I am Inara, by the way."

"It was," Vi said, widening her eyes comically. "She had this hair, she was really fussy about it ... anyhow." She shook it off. "I'm Vi. What's Earth-that-was?"

"I think...here," Inara said carefully.

"But here is ... here," Vi said, confused. "Except ... it's not here in your universe?"

She wasn't too fond of that idea.

"I'm from about 3,000 years in the future, I think," Inara explained, "so there's been some exploring in between."

Vi coughed in surprise. "I met someone from 500 years in the future," she said. "So 3,000 shouldn't sound like so much more, but somehow it does."

She nodded. "It feels that way sometimes, too. Are you from this era?"

Vi nodded. "I'm about four years off, but that's nothing. I keep forgetting about it."

"Are you from four years in the past or four years in the future?

"Past," Vi told Inara. "But things don't seem that different from home. Other than in the Fandom-is-weird way."

"Where are you from?" She asked.

"San Antonio, Texas," Vi said. "It's kind of on the other side of the country. it's big and really hot. How about you?"
