Sunday Evening - Curupira Campfire

It was their last night in the cabins.  It was also raining.  But Katara refused to let that stop her from trying to roast marshmallows one more time.

So any visitors to the Curupira campfire would find a merrily crackling fire, s'mores makings, and a strangely dry patch of ground around the fire.

Also a waterbender who was concentrating a lot on keeping that area dry.

"Katara's quite adept with water," Qui-Gon said. "I suspect even Master Yoda would be impressed."

"He's tough to impress, huh?" Jaina asked. She had an idea that he wasn't, but still. How often did you meet someone who actually knew Yoda? ...Who wasn't her uncle.

"He's over 800 years old," Qui-Gon said with a fond smile. "I suspect anyone would be hard to impress at that age."

Jaina grinned. "Very good point. So, how have you been?"

"Good," he said. "This is an excellent place for meditation and communing with nature. I've been doing a great deal of that."

"I haven't done as much of that as I probably should," she admitted. "I finally managed to get in some lightsaber practice."

"I did as well, with Anakin," Qui-Gon said, his eyes lighting up at the memory. "He's very good."

Jaina was getting very good at not giving anything away when that name came up. No one would be able to accuse her of not having self-control. "He's had a lot of practice," she said evenly.

"I expect we'll be able to say the same at his age," Qui-Gon said.

Probably not, actually. For a few reasons. "I'd really rather things stayed quiet so we wouldn't have to," she admitted.

Qui-Gon tilted his head and looked at her thoughtfully. "Things weren't always quiet?"

"Not always," she said slowly. "It got better." And worse.

"Everything moves in cycles," Qui-Gon said still in a thoughtful manner.

"Tell me about it," Jaina said. "Which only means the bad things have to get better."

Aw, so optimistic. That'll stick, yeah.

"They always do," Qui-Gon said. "It might take a long time, but things are always in motion."
