Sunday Evening - Curupira Campfire

It was their last night in the cabins.  It was also raining.  But Katara refused to let that stop her from trying to roast marshmallows one more time.

So any visitors to the Curupira campfire would find a merrily crackling fire, s'mores makings, and a strangely dry patch of ground around the fire.

Also a waterbender who was concentrating a lot on keeping that area dry.

Rain was still somewhat of a novelty to Aravis, so she had been out playing in it for a short walk when she spotted the burning campfire. She approached, confused, and entered the dry patch.

"...are you doing this?" she asked Katara curiously. "Or is it a function of the fire?"

Katara blinked then grinned. "No...it's me. Fire's not so good at repelling water."

"Magic fire might," Aravis pointed out. "Is it magic, what you're doing?"

Molly walked out of the cabin and sat down next to Katara with a satisfied sigh. "Waterbending is so much more useful than firebending," she said.

Katara laughed. "This is what I'm saying! Look! There are marshmallows and you can cook them over the fire."

"No, it's not magic, it's waterbending," Katara explained in the tones of someone who'd said that a million times.

Molly started to do just that, setting up two sticks so that she could roast one for Katara as well.

"I don't want to go back to the dorms tomorrow," she said with a pout.

"Interesting manipulation of energy," Qui-Gon complimented, joining her by the fire.

Aravis looked blank. "You're...bending water?"

Aravis nodded to the other girl. "Good evening."

"Me neither," she agreed. "I like Chad and all, but the cabins are so much more fun! And we have the best cabin ever."

Katara smiled at him. "Thanks! I didn't want to spend the rest of our last night in the cabins indoors."

"Yep! That's what we call it at home. I'm manipulating the qi of the water to move away from us basically," she said.

"I see," Aravis said. No, she didn't. "How?"

Aravis offered a small smile and inclined her head. "Hello."

"Hi!" Molly smiled at the new girl. "Welcome to our campfire! I'm Molly. I don't think we've met yet."

"Uhhh," she thought of a way to explain it. "I can feel the qi of the water - the energy in the water and I know that water reacts to the push and pull force of the moon. So I am able to mimic that a bit by working with the qi of the water to push and pull it?"

That...probably made no sense at all.

"We do!" Molly agreed. "I hope... oh, shoot. I was going to say that I hope we get to come back like we did last year, but I won't be here."

Aravis offered a small smile. "I am Aravis, hello. Are you also a new student?"

Aravis wasn't going to admit that she still didn't really understand it.

"That makes sense," she said with a little smile. "I am Aravis. Forgive me for not introducing myself sooner."

Katara frowned. "It won't be the same without you! Not at all."

Molly shook her head. "I've been here for over a year now. How are you liking it so far?"

"That would be a shame," he agreed. "It's not everywhere you can have a campfire."

"Hello," Qui-Gon replied with a small sitting bow and a welcoming smile. "Joining us on this lovely night?"

"Or? Marshmallows," Katara said with a nod. "Have you ever had them?"
