Sunday Evening - Curupira Campfire

It was their last night in the cabins.  It was also raining.  But Katara refused to let that stop her from trying to roast marshmallows one more time.

So any visitors to the Curupira campfire would find a merrily crackling fire, s'mores makings, and a strangely dry patch of ground around the fire.

Also a waterbender who was concentrating a lot on keeping that area dry.

That got her to blink. "Marshmallows?"

"I love knowing about junk food," Katara said. She pointed to the marshmallows. "They're sugary and really good. You can put them in hot chocolate or roast them over the fire."

"So you cook them?" she asked, looking to the marshmallows.

"You can," she said. "Or you can just eat them raw. But if you want to cook them, don't stick them right in the fire. They flame up."

"I think I have to try this now," she said. "Just out of curiosity."

"Do it! Then you can put the marshmallow on chocolate and graham crackers? And they call them s'mores. They're so, so good." Katara pointed to the sticks. "You put the marshmallow on there and put it over the coals."

Jaina got one of the marshmallows, putting it on the end of a stick, and holding it out over the fire. "Just like that?"

"Exactly," Katara said. "And you kinda rotate it so it doesn't burn on one side."

Jaina did as instructed, noting, "This isn't so hard. How do I know when it's done?"

"It turns golden brown," she explained. "And it starts to want to fall in the fire."

She laughed at that last bit. "I guess the turning helps with that part, too, huh?"

"So Isabel told me," Katara laughed. "I think she was going to catch it with her alien fu if mine fell though. Sadly I can't do it. I could just put out the fire and get ashes all over everything."

Still grinning, Jaina said, "Though that would be a fun way to tell everyone the party's over."

"I'll have to remember that," she said. "If it goes too late, I'll stop waterbending the rain and everyone will have to leave or get wet."

"Who needs polite when you have direct?" Jaina asked, and pulled her marshmallow from the fire. When she tried to pull it off, she frowned. "I'm going to have stick bits in my marshmallow."

"Just a little bit," Katara said. "You won't even notice!"

"I'm noticing so far," said Jaina, still trying to get the marshmallow off, and now it was all over her fingers, too. "Is it supposed to do this?"

Katara laughed. "I think so. I just learned about them on Thursday, but they do that to me too."
