Third Floor Common Room, Late Sunday Evening

Rikku had no idea why she was up. She should be tired, but she wasn't. Go figure!

Luckily, her Monday class wasn't until after lunch, so it was okay if she stayed up late. She'd even remembered to bring snacks this time. Lots of sugary goodness and crunchy stuff.

The TV said it was a Movie Monster Marathon and Rikku was learning all kinds of stuff. She felt like taking notes. She'd have to ask someone later if any of these creatures were real or not. Most of them weren't anywhere in Spira, that was for sure.

Aravis had learned that one of the risks of staying out late and coming back to one's room late was that you might wake up to find your roommate's horse there.

And yet, she wasn't tired and she was seeking company. So that was why she wandered into the third floor common room, took one look at the television, and said, "...are those factual reports? Or is this more fiction?"

"Aravis," Seely grinned and perked up a little. "Monster movies, pretty damn fake."

"They could be real," she argued, settling down beside him. "I have no way of knowing. Especially here."

"Definitely fake in the movies." Seely pointed to the screen. "You can see the seams in the costume."

"That's what Luke said about the animals in the space movie," Aravis grumbled. "I maintain that it could be part of their anatomy."

"You can see the stuntman's wristwatch through it."

"I am not one to judge the appearance of another."

"Even when that appearance is entirely due to a rubber costume?"

"It is not its fault if this creature has an unfortunate skin affliction."

"Aravis!" Rikku waved. "I think it's fiction? I'm gonna ask someone later who knows. The swamp-monster thing was fake, but zombies are real, so it's kinda confusing. Snacks?"

"Ooh, snacks. Have you anything with sugar?" Aravis asked. "And I agree absolutely. Any of these things could show up and no one in this town would be surprised."

"I always have sugar," said Rikku, eyes dancing a little. "And hey! How did the cow-thing go? And hey! Did you, you know talk to him?" Rikku's bouncing was decidedly more pronounced now.

"I haven't yet," she said, shaking her head. "There hasn't been a moment to, really. But the cow thing went well! He was slightly startled! And then there was a horse in my room this morning, but surprisingly it wasn't a gift of retaliation."

"I bet he was more than slightly startled," Rikku laughed. "A horse?! No way! I came back to the dorms on Saturday and Crookshanks - Hermione's cat? Was this creepy middle-aged guy who kept kicking her bowl and being grumpy. It was cute. Disturbing, but cute."

She leaned in a little, dropping her voice. "I, uh, I had the, you know, talk? With, uh. Yeah." And she bounced more.

"You did?" Aravis's eyebrows shot up. "Did it go...well, did it go well enough that it's not common room talk?"

Rikku grinned, bouncing more. "It ... kinda? Yes, very! I mean, not like that, like, we were just talking! It was more, uh. That we, uh, we're okay. We're really okay. We're great. Super-great. Yeah. And ... yeah." She smiled, all dreamy and stupid.

"So!" she said suddenly. "Talking to boys is good. Really. A lot. So, so great. I highly recommend it A-S-A-P."

"I'm happy for you. A-S-A-P?" she asked, not touching the question of whether she'd actually do any talking of her own.

"They're fake," Z told her. "Or at least, here they are."

"Are you certain?" Aravis asked suspiciously.

"...yes?" said Z, but she didn't sound very certain.

"That was not a 'yes' with conviction," Aravis said. "They are real!"

"They might be," Z said. "If I saw one of those back home, I'd go, 'Great, aliens have invaded again.' But here there's not so much of a problem with that. Also? Movies are fiction." Usually.

"Even the things on the television with the knives cutting through cans?"

"Huh?" Z asked her, somewhat confused.

"There was a thing on the television with people talking about a knife that could cut through metal cylinders, which I learned are called cans, to prove its sharpness!" Aravis explained.
