Fourth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

In the kitchen area, there was a Jenny. And Jenny? Was wearing an apron. This was generally not a good thing. Luckily for other people, especially if they were looking for something to eat, she was not alone.

"Right," she said to Ronan. "Feed me, meta for Seymour."

Ronan laughed, as he handed Jenny a couple of carrots and a knife. "All right. Peel and dice these."

Jenny took the carrots and very carefully cut the stemmy end off, then set to peeling. That part, at least, she could manage. "Define 'dice.'"

"Cut into cube -- or cube-like, they don't need to be perfectly square or anything -- pieces." Ronan looked over. "Do you want me to show you on the first one?" he added, as he turned away from washing his hands. Already, there was diced chicken in a pot of water on the stove, starting to heat up.

"No, I got it," Jenny insisted as she began hacking the carrots into approximately square pieces. She peered into the pot, then accused Ronan, "You're fast."

Hoshi dropped by the common room with the intention of cooking something for dinner, but she was amused to see that Jenny had already beaten her to it. "Ooh, what are you making?"

"It's Half-Assed Soup," Ronan said, smiling. "And yes, that's what it's actually called."

"Sounds... interesting," said Hoshi.

"Oh, it's just a recipe of me Mum's," he said, slipping a little further into his Irish lilt. "She used to make it when she didn't feel like putting effort into anything more difficult."

"Oh, hey," Jenny said. "Ronan's teaching me how to make soup."

"Really? Sounds like fun," said Hoshi.

"So far it is," Jenny said with a grin. "Nobody's got burned or lost a finger yet, anyway."

Anders was a teenage boy.

Anders was very naturally hungry.

Therefore, Anders was making the rounds of the common rooms, looking for potential dinner.

"Ooooh, is there food?" he asked hopefully when he popped into this particular common room.

"Anders!" Ronan said, grinning. "Yes! There is -- or will be -- food!"

"Ronan, you're my hero," Anders said instantly. "I'm like starving here."

Grinning, Ronan said, "Well, it shouldn't be too much longer oh my god you have blue hair." The last was said with a slightly stunned look, but then he broke out grinning again, this time even wider. "That looks so cool."

"There will be food," Jenny told the boy, "if nothing goes awry. Nice hair!"

"Thanks," Anders replied with a grin, running his fingers through it. "I've finally gotten to the point where I can go wash my face in the morning and not go 'dude, what the frak?' when I see my reflection. Name's Anders, by the way."

"Your hair is blue," Hoshi said, looking a bit surprised.

"That's exactly what my girlfriend said," Anders replied with a grin. "Hey . . . Hoshi, right?"

Marco had a radar for free food. Or at least, an uncanny ability to appear where it was.

Here was another unfamiliar face that Hoshi didn't recognize. Three weeks at Fandom had improved her social skills a bit so she spoke first. "Hi! Are you another fourth floor resident I haven't met yet?"

"Jenny and Ronan are making soup," said Hoshi from her comfy position on the couch.

"Smells good." he smiled. "How's things going Hoshi?" No he wasn't deliberately using bad english to confuse her. Well maybe a little.
