Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

"Can you hand me the ginger?" Ronan asked, as he ground some spices with a mortar and pestle. "The fresh, I mean." The fragrant smells of cooking curry were already pervading the common room, and probably making their way through the rest of the dorms. When Isabel handed over the asked-for ginger, he added some to the mixture in the mortar, and went back to grinding. "Thanks. I hope this isn't too spicy for whoever else comes along," he added.

"You may well be my new favorite person," Isabel laughed. "That's awesome! And it will be perfect."

"Thanks," Ronan said. "I've never actually tried it before, but it seemed like it would go well with brownies."

"You'll have to share some with River at some point," she told him. "That sounds like something she would like."

"Yeah?" Ronan asked. "Definitely, then. Although you'll have to make the brownies."

Isabel snickered. "Of course. Because exploding brownies would be a waste of good chocolate and we can't have that."

"Exactly." Ronan grinned. "Although now I'm contemplating cayenne cream puffs. Thoughts?"

"Just two. When and where."

"Later in the week, maybe?" Ronan considered. "What about Thursday?"

"I have to work but after that I'm free," Isabel told him. "That work for you?"

"Sounds perfect! Cayenne cream puffs... what else?"

"Ummm...More spicy hot chocolate for one. And I do have a recipe for a jalepeno chocolate cake (http://www.pepperfool.com/recipes/desserts/spicy_jalcake.html) bookmarked."

Ronan stared at Izzy for a moment. "... I think you may be my new favorite person."

Isabel grinned, "So basically I can bribe you with sweet and spicy and get whatever I want?"

"Well. I wouldn't say whatever you want. But, uh. Close?"

"I'll keep that in mind. And try not to turn up spicy baked goods too often," she promised.

Isabel laughed and went to give Ronan a hug. "Well in that case, can I request a tiny bit of glitter for my Halloween costume?"

Ronan nodded. "I think that can be arranged. Even more than a tiny bit, if you're feeling adventurous!"

"We'll have to see," she said slowly. "There's a fine line between tastefully sparklily and over the top. I wouldn't want to cross it. And with all the spangles and beads? I just might."

"You don't trust me to be tasteful?" Ronan asked, mock-pained. "Isabel, I'm hurt!"

"Ronan, I'm wearing a whole bunch of silk, a skimpy top, and a zillion bangles. You might be tasteful, but not when you're working with that," Isabel grinned.
