Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

"Can you hand me the ginger?" Ronan asked, as he ground some spices with a mortar and pestle. "The fresh, I mean." The fragrant smells of cooking curry were already pervading the common room, and probably making their way through the rest of the dorms. When Isabel handed over the asked-for ginger, he added some to the mixture in the mortar, and went back to grinding. "Thanks. I hope this isn't too spicy for whoever else comes along," he added.

Jenny pointed at Isabel and said, "I like you. Not sure I know you, but I like you."

Isabel grinned. "Like ships in the night, I'm pretty sure we've passed by one another in various common rooms. I'm Isabel Evans. Nice to meet you."

"Jenny Sparks," Jenny said with a nod. "Nice to meet you, Isabel. Love the hair," she added with a grin.

"Blondes have more fun," she laughed. "Isn't that a proven fact?"

"If it isn't," Jenny told her with a chuckle, "science has fallen down on the job."

"We might have to do some research of our own then," Isabel said. "Get published even. It would look good on the college applications."

"Ugh, college," Jenny said, then gave it a thought for a moment. "I suppose I could give it a shot. Might not suck."

"I've been living and breathing applications for the last few weeks. I've been giving serious thought to saying the hell with it all and heading out to some island somewhere. I could spend my days harvesting coconuts or something." She was mostly kidding.

"It's a thought," Jenny said. "Give me a few more years and I might join you on that island."

"You'd have to bring your own cabana boy," Isabel said with a grin.

"Cabana boys aren't provided?" Jenny pouted. "What kind of low-rent tropical paradise is this, anyway?"

"It's at least a step up from that reality show," she snickered. "And no one will ever vote you off the island."

"Maybe we could start a cabana boy import business," Jenny suggested. "We'll take them from less deserving tropical paradises."

"Of from less deserving schools," Isabel nodded. "Think of some of the guys here. Wouldn't you want to see them in bathing suits, serving you your drinks?"
