Second floor common room, Monday afternoon

Jim had an experiment to conduct. He settled into the common room and turned on the History Channel. It seemed to be Titanic Day or something because everything they were showing was about the Titanic. That was weird.

It also had nothing to do with his experiment. He sat back, watched Modern Marvels, and wondered how he was going to work vole skeletons into conversation.

"I have no clue. I think it's a rodenty thing," Jim said. "I think it's more fun if I don't know, though."

"You can imagine it's a variety of things," she said thoughtfully.

"Right now I'm going with a rhino with wings," Jim said.

"That could be a real animal where Katara's from," she said, nodding.

"Draw a picture of it for me!" Jim requested.

"I don't have my sketchpad," she replied. "Are they more bird wings or butterfly wings?"

"I was thinking bird, but butterfly would be hysterical," Jim said.

"Or like a dragonfly!" she said thoughtfully. "But if it was a butterfly it could have wee antennae too."

"And roller skates," Jim suggested.

"Mittens?" she tried.

"And sunglasses," Jim offered.

"Oh! Oh, and maybe a fake nose and mustache? On the end of his horn?"

"Just in case he's trying to hide the wing thing from his friends. We don't want to embarrass the poor guy," Jim agreed.

"But wouldn't his friends also be rhinos with wings?" she wondered.

"Pam, there's not going to be more than one winged rhino around," Jim said. "That's just silly."

"Jim, I drew a penguin with whiskers and extra wings last week. And apparently people sled around on them. Herds and herds of winged rhinos? Not that weird."

"So if a winged rhino came up to you and said hi, you wouldn't think it was weird? Really?"

"Yes, I would, but that's because talking winged rhinos are just weird."

"Their vocal chords are too small."

"Which only means that they can be louder, but they still can't speak."
