Second Floor Common Room - Saturday Morning

Dick had insisted getting a piggyback ride instead of walking the ten feet it took to get to the common room. It was way too early for Meg to say no to people, especially kids.

"Go watch TV. Be good. Don't ask anybody that comes in to play doctor with you," Meg said. She had fallen for the doctor thing before when they were kids. Twice.

After making sure that Dick had found some cartoons to watch, Meg went into the kitchen and got out stuff to make pancakes.

[Totally open. Go ahead, traumatize her into not having kids for a long, long time. And, yes, when she figures out that this is an island-wide thing she'll be making a lot more pancakes to accommodate]

"It looks like we're definitely in the minority," Hermione said, looking around the room. "Hopefully we're not the only ones."

And yes that was a concern for her now.

"Isabel said that Wyatt was big," Meg said. "But I wasn't sure if she meant big as in like us or if Wyatt had been a chubby kid."

"At these age, being nine years old might be big," she said, and considered this. "At least at nine they can help out. I'm all right with that."

"I don't know, so far the little kids have been easier to deal with," Meg said. "Dick tried to put me in a headlock this morning. He's eight."

"He..." She frowned. "Why did he try to put you in a headlock?"

"Cause he's a jerk," Meg said. "And I don't feel bad about saying that. I knew him back when he was really eight."

"Does that make it easier or stranger?" she wondered, suddenly fearing a tiny Ron.

"Stranger," Meg said immediately. "It's way, way stranger."

Hermione sighed. Woe. "Do you need any help with anything?" she offered, not sure how long Meg had been the only near-adult in a room full of kids.

Meg looked around at all the kids and remembered all the syrup she had been putting on the pancakes. "I need you to back me up once the sugar kicks in."

Hermione had the good sense to look a little daunted at that. See, if she were a less good person she could at least consider the idea of spelling them into calm. "Sounds like fun," she tried.

"Oh yeah," Meg said. "I can't wait till the sugar-fueled uprising begins."

"I'm sure we can give time outs," said Hermione, who was not above using her super would-be prefect powers on children.
