4th Floor Common Room [Sunday, Morning]

Mac had never been so glad to have access to caffeine. Sunday mornings were supposed to be for lie-ins.

Kids, as it turned out, woke up antisocially early and usually only to demand food. Well, that was what the shape of the last twenty-four hours told her, anyway.

That, and that she should invest in electronic tagging. Mainly for Miles. Maybe Veronica could set her up with child lo-jack...

Anyway, once she'd finally figured out that if you gave them lots of cereal and sit them in front of cartoons they didn't break things quite so much, she did just that, and settled down with her coffee to make the most of the break. However short-lived that might be.

"Not really, she just has more creative threats sometimes," Caz confided.

"I'm Caz, who're you?" he asked.

"Miles," he replied. He pointed at Mac, who had taken the moment to go back to her coffee. With everything of the last day or so, she needed it. "That's my mom."

"Aunt Mac doesn't have kids," Caz argued.

"She's not your aunt," Miles told him. "She's my mom. I would know!"

Caz was savvy enough to realize that this kid was clearly from another dimension. But that didn't mean he wouldn't argue.

"She is so my aunt," he insisted.

"Not where I'm from," he said firmly. "Else I would know you. I know all my cousins."

"Yeah, well, you're not around where I'm from either," Caz said.

"Are there any video games around here?" Caz asked.

"Mom has some," Miles told him. He'd discovered those when he'd been digging through her stuff the day before. "I'll get them."

Mac didn't actually get the chance to have a say in that, since he was already half-way out the door.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure he'll find something," she said to Caz. Not that she was sure everything on her desk would still be in one piece when she got back to it.

"Sounds cool," Caz said. "So is she yours too?" he asked, pointing to Amy.

"Hi, Amy," Caz said. She was a cute kid and he had always wanted a little sister since his big sister was a pain in the ass most of the time.

Amy smiled at him. "Hi." Oh, see, the girl does have a voice.

Granted, she was half behind Mac when she said it. Not the most outgoing kid in the world.

"I think I'm gonna go see if I can wake my dad up now," Caz said.

"Don't worry, Aunt Mac. He's probably a geek like you and can fix whatever he breaks," Caz said with a smirk as he headed out of the room.
