Andromeda campfire, Monday evening

Jaina hadn't really had the concept of summer that most people had. There hadn't ever been a break from school for her, and half the time she'd be on a different planet that wouldn't even have proper summer weather. But not having classes till later in the week certainly helped with the summer feel, so that was why Jaina was starting a campfire, and wondering if she should have gotten marshmallows or something first. Oops.

"Really? You can tell that just by looking?" Toby was amazed by the incredible people here.

"It's like a gift," she said seriously. "I'm Jaina, by the way."

"Toby," he said, putting a hand to his smooth chest, indicating himself. "Are you like, one of the magic people?"

That was a new way of putting it. "I'm a Jedi," she said slowly. "Which I guess is sort of like, one of the magic people."

"Ooh," Toby was intrigued. "Are there a lot of your kind here?" He looked around, wondering if there was some sign of this Jedi thing.

"At the moment, three," she said. "Dare you to guess who the others are."

Well that was helpful, Jaina.

"Are any of them at the campfire?" Toby asked, checking out the new faces.

Looking around, she said, "One of them is." And she wasn't clarifying gender, either.

"Tell me it's not the girl who stutters?" Toby whispered. That would just be sad.

"No," she said. "Not even close."

Toby peered interestedly at the guy with the freaky hair for a moment. Totally magic of some kind. "Is it a dude?"

"Yes, it's a... okay, I refuse to say 'dude'. Yes," she said.

"You know you just said dude, right?" Toby didn't know why anyone would refuse. "Is it the one with really shiny hair? Only magic could make mine stand up like that."

Jaina didn't need to ask who he was talking about. "No," she smiled, "that's just talent."

"Huh." Toby was stumped. It wasn't a pretty look on him, which explained why he didn't let confusion stop him for long. "I know it's not the cat, and it's not my boy...is it the bushy blond?"

"Bushy blond?" she repeated, looking just to make sure she knew who he was talking about with that description.

Toby pointed toward Luke. "He's kinda cute in a dorky way."

Ow, her head. "He's my uncle," Jaina informed him, trying to share the sudden discomfort.

"Wow, your parents must've had you young," Toby said, surprised. "Or are you, like a freshman and just seem older?"

"Junior," she said. "There's an alternate universe thing going on. Don't think too hard on it, it'll hurt your head, I promise."

"Oh, I won't then." Toby decided it must be part of her magic. "Do you get a lot of headaches? I know this really great herbal remedy that clears up even the worst morning after."

"I'm fine, thanks," Jaina told him. She wasn't sure she wanted to know. "I've got my own tricks."
