Andromeda campfire, Monday evening

Jaina hadn't really had the concept of summer that most people had. There hadn't ever been a break from school for her, and half the time she'd be on a different planet that wouldn't even have proper summer weather. But not having classes till later in the week certainly helped with the summer feel, so that was why Jaina was starting a campfire, and wondering if she should have gotten marshmallows or something first. Oops.

Hinata flushed a bit. "I-it must be obvious," she said ruefully, stepping over to the girl and bowing. "I am Hyuuga Hinata." A pause there. "Hinata's i-is my first name."

Clarification was a good thing.

"Well, I hadn't seen you before, so I figured," she explained. "Good to meet you, Hinata. I'm Jaina." She was probably going to be introducing herself a lot today.

"T-there's so many people here," she admitted, "I don't t-think I'll ever know them all. It is a pleasure to meet you though."

"You'll get used to it," she assured her. "It just might take some time, and possibly nametags for a while."

"B-but for that to work then you'd need t-to convince other people to wear the nametags," Hinata pointed out. "I-I don't think that's viable."

Unfortunately.

"I actually think it might work if someone asked," said Jaina. "I think that's how people find each other the first day. And if they don't agree, we get to write it on their foreheads or something."

That got a small giggle out of her. "W-would it be in permanent ink, or no?"

"No, that'd probably be mean," she said, considering it.

"Y-you could pretend it was permanent ink t-though," Hinata suggested, "when it's r-really not."

Jaina smiled. "Look at you, being all devious."

Hinata blushed and shrugged a little. "N-ninja are supposed to be at l-least a little?"

"You're a ninja?" she asked. She'd met a few in Fandom, and she had to admit that Hinata hadn't exactly seemed the type.

She smiled. "H-have been on active duty for almost two years now."

And that, that, she was proud of.

"Impressive," said Jaina, who as someone who joined the military at sixteen should not have been too surprised by other young people doing the same sort of thing. "You like it?"

"I-I can't imagine doing anything else," Hinata said, looking mildly startled at the question.
