Andromeda campfire, Monday evening

Jaina hadn't really had the concept of summer that most people had. There hadn't ever been a break from school for her, and half the time she'd be on a different planet that wouldn't even have proper summer weather. But not having classes till later in the week certainly helped with the summer feel, so that was why Jaina was starting a campfire, and wondering if she should have gotten marshmallows or something first. Oops.

[Open! It's my day off, I am enjoying it, dammit.]

Oh dear. She pressed her fingers together nervously and tried to think of a way that wouldn't insult him.

"A-ano," Hinata said finally, "summons are animals we can call on to help us at h-home." She flushed. "My a-apologies."

"Oh," said Lion-o. "Well, I'm probably not because I'm not really very helpful to anyone. I think that's why my father and Jaga sent me here. My name's Lion-o."

She'd bow, but she was sitting down. A bob of her head would have to suffice. "Y-you need to learn to be helpful?" Hinata asked, then flushed, "A-and I'm Hinata."

"Well, one day I'm going to take over for my father and he helps a lot of people," Lion-o tried to explain. "My father said that this place can prepare me for my destiny a lot better than he can."

"Oh," she looked down, thinking that sounded rather similar. "A-are you finding it more useful s-so far?"

"Well, so far it's been very different from home," said Lion-o. "There are so many humans here!"

She blinked. "N-not many where you're from?"

"I've heard of humans, but I've never seen one," said Lion-o. "I come from a place called Thundera where everyone is either a cat or a snarf."

"What's a snarf?" Because the rest could be put down to alternate worlds, right?

"Snarfs are the other people on my world," said Lion-o. "They have four legs and red and yellow fur, but my Snarf has a lot of white fur because he's so old."

He lowered his voice to a whisper. "Snarf is my nanny. He refused to let me go here on my own," he added, looking a little embarrassed. Lion-o was certain that none of the other kids needed to have a nursemaid taking care of them.

"W-what's a nanny?" Hinata asked.

"Um," said Lion-o, "Snarf makes sure I eat my vegetables, wakes me up in the morning and makes sure I go to bed on time, and he yells at me whenever I get in trouble."

"So Snarf is y-your parent?" she asked, looking confused. "O-or a servant?"

"I guess he's a servant, since he serves my father," said Lion-o. "But everyone serves my father. He's the Lord of the Thundercats."

"He's the c-clan head?"

"Even better," said Lion-o excitedly. "He's the head of all the clans!"

That got a frown. "He's related to all of the clans?"

Because, she didn't know another way...

"Or is he... l-like... your Hokage?"

"He's not related to the pumas or the jaguars or any of them," said Lion-o. "But the head of the lion clan is always the Lord of the Thundercats. It's always been that way. What's a hokage?"

"W-what would happen if one of the others w-were better suited?" she asked, pressing her fingers together. "Hokage-sama is our leader, who w-was chosen of all the ninja to lead us."

"I see," said Lion-o. "That kind of sounds like Jaga. He's the best warrior among the Thundercats, and after my father was attacked and lost his sight, he started sharing power with Jaga. They rule together."

"A-are things better now? W-with more than one person ruling?"

"It's a lot easier on my father," said Lion-o. "He oversees the ruling council while Jaga leads the warriors."

"I-In my world, then, your Jaga w-would be the equivalent of our Hokage."

"Jaga is the one who convinced my father to send me here," said Lion-o.

"I-I'm sure he felt it was a good thing then," Hinata said with quiet conviction. "Leader's like that are usually wise."
