Andromeda campfire, Monday evening

Jaina hadn't really had the concept of summer that most people had. There hadn't ever been a break from school for her, and half the time she'd be on a different planet that wouldn't even have proper summer weather. But not having classes till later in the week certainly helped with the summer feel, so that was why Jaina was starting a campfire, and wondering if she should have gotten marshmallows or something first. Oops.

"Cars are cool," he replied. "What about you? You got a boyfriend?"

Today was just the day for throwing her off, apparently. "Yes," she said. "For a while now, too."

"Yeah? Long term gig, huh. That's cool. How long has it been? Four, five weeks?" That translated to years in gay time.

She had to think about it. "Nine months," Jaina said, and wow, really.

"Whoa!" Kevin was impressed. "That's like a really, really long time. You two must really be in love."

True or not, that somehow wasn't something Jaina had even discussed with her friends, so admitting it to someone whose name she didn't even know was a little odd. "Something like that," she said.

"Isn't love awesome," he said with a smile. "I never thought I would find it, but I did." He smiled over at his boyfriend.

"Congratulations," she said, looking over. "How long have you been together?"

"We got back together three days ago," he said. At least he thought it had been three days.
