Ursa Major Campfire [after classes]

After a long sparring session with Jaina in the salle and and even longer shower (he was going to miss the unlimited water around here), Luke assembled some food made for sticks--marshmallows, hot dogs, weird Rebel rations that Yoda had always made fun of--and stretched out in front of the campfire.

The fire reminded him a bit of being back on Endor. Without the "being served over it" aspect, of course.

[OOC: So open.]

Adah was finding herself almost painfully bored with summer; it didn't help that the whole time, in her head, there were all the lists of things she would have been doing if she'd have gotten that internship. Holing up in her alcove only got her so far (to be specific, it got her exactly as far as page 121, from going backwards, in her guide to ornithology, approached backwards, because she was thinking of potentially taking up birdwatching again if only to kill time), and she was actually getting rather restless about the whole mess. So she risked another social encounter by slipping out, emerging from the cabin, notebook clutched against her chest. Seeing Luke there was a bit of a relief; they hadn't talked in a while, but, hey, she didn't hate him and they didn't have a sordid past, which was enough to make her decided to go ahead and sit down. She set the notebook on her crooked lap and observed the available food indecisively for a moment before choosing what looked the most substantial, a hot dog.

Once she was able to find herself in a comfortable lean forward, slightly favoring the left, of course, Adah poised the hot dog over the flames first and then slid her eyes in a slow, dull sort of gaze toward Luke. Her eyebrow shortly follow, lifting slightly, and her expression made it entirely clear that a lot of time didn't seem to cover it well enough. Excessive, massive, gargantuan. Great big black expanses of time already dead but needed to be killed again and again and again. If she believed in limbo, that cool quirk of her brow suggested simply, this would be it, utterly and completely.

Yes. A lot of time. Excellent way to put it, Skywalker.

But there was a slight, faint ghost of a sardonic grin to match, as well.

Adah maintained her look, considering what sorts of things Luke could knit. It lead to a rather interesting image of Artoo with an obscenely colorful hat. Then, slightly, in response, her head started to sway back and forth in answer. Nothing to fill the time, nothing more than what she already had, the usual methods of sucking away idle hours. Reading and writing, backwards, forward, over and over and trying to find something new within all the same things that had been written and read since Dog knew how long. She sighed, good shoulder slumping forward, as she turned her hot dog over the flames.

She was clearly not too impressed with summer.

Adah took a moment to stick the end of the stick that she was holding into the ground, so that she could free up her good hand to flip open her notebook. She tucked the cover back and opened it up to her pages sprawled with potential codes of genetic structures, meant to eventually be riddles, each portraying a certain genetic defect and highlighting the combination of chromosomes that caused it. It also listed what the defect was, its traits, and its complications, and she gave the notebook a slight toss toward Luke. She knew it would land in the dirt, but she didn't mind. She figured she might as well show him exactly what it was she was doing. Naming chromosome combinations. Almost as bad as naming grains of sand. There were, after all, just about as many of them.

"How do you do, Luke?" Peter asked, taking a seat by the fire.

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's impressive," Peter admitted. "And none of Rory's friends decided everyone was from an insane asylum." He grinned back. "I couldn't be better."

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I saw the t-shirts," Peter said. "Should have bought enough for all your father's students to wear for his first class in the fall. And quite possibly depending on what they talked about," he said, looking down but grinning a lot. "I don't listen except when Willow's on."

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Would you like to go to another?" Peter asked. "If your duties allow, of course. Perhaps one in my country. Somehow Willow lost her mind and agreed to marry me."

Isabel grinned at Peter. "So are the squirrels telling tales? Or are congratulations in order?"

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Peter glanced down, grinning. "Squirrels seem to be telling the truth this time."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh that's wonderful!" she squeed happily. "Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!"

"Thank you, Isabel," Peter said, almost looking embarrassed. "It's a great honour. I don't know quite what Willow's thinking."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"That she's found a wonderful guy who's going to treat her well," Isabel replied sincerely. "What more could she want?"

As promised on Lana's list, Isabel turned up with everything needed to make banana smores (http://www.woodalls.com/output.cfm?ID=1212283).

"Hey," she smiled, settling in next to the fire.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Bananas and all kinds of things to stuff into them," Isabel said, spreading out a towel and setting everything up on it.

"The way I figure it, the bananas are healthy treat for a change." If you squinted and could find the banana under the mass of melted chocolate and caramel.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Isabel had chocolate, caramel, and a healthy splash of Tabasco. "Healthy is good. Healthy cancels out all the sugar. Really."

After closing up the foil, she used her TK to set the banana amongst the coals. "So what's up in the world of Luke?"
