Scorpius Campfire, Sunday Evening

As it turned out, Jen didn't handle hangovers very well, which had something to do with the way she'd managed to completely miss out on any and all pony-related activities yesterday.

She could have been a pony for all she knew, but she'd been asleep through all of it thanks to the wonders of Aleve; apparently 21st-century painkillers had quite the effect on a 31st-century physiology unused to them. So yay for that, she supposed.

She'd managed to get a fire going -- a small and kind of ragged one, definitely not the kind of fire-building that would win a merit badge, but it was erratically crackling away as Jen went through some martial arts forms nearby. Sure, there was a gym on the campgrounds, but being around all these trees made her kind of nostalgic for the days when the best she'd had was that rope-wrapped tree in that Silver Hills park.

Besides, this was where she'd laid out the s'more makings. Duh.

Brooke didn't live in Scorpius, but she was just happy to see someone out and doing stuff tonight. "Look, people!" she said in greeting.

"Hey," Jen replied, waving a bag of marshmallows. "You're . . . Brooke, right?" It had been a while since that pizza in the common room but she hoped she remembered right.

"Thank you for not calling me the other one," Brooke said, and it was so sad she could still be grateful about that. "Yeah, that's me. And I see you have sugar."

"The other -- oh, right. I don't think I've met her, though." Yay, doppelganger fun. In a stunning (okay, not so much) display of efficient motion, Jen gestured toward the chocolate and graham crackers with the bag of marshmallows in her hand. "Sugar goes with campfires, apparently. Help yourself."

"I think someone a long time ago figured out that bathing suit season should be coupled with camping activities that involve a lot of calories, and that doesn't seem fair," Brooke said, nevertheless reaching for the graham crackers.

"One of the universe's cruel jokes?" Jen suggested. "Because of course that's when the weather makes you not want to work off the calories, too."

Brooke sighed. "I'm starting to think summer is hidden evil. That's not a thought I want to have."

"Well, there was this time in 2761 in my world where . . ." Jen began, then shook her head. "Well, no, I don't think it's actually evil. But it does a really good impression."

"Were you expecting more ponies?" Harry asked.

"I missed the ponies," Brooke said. "I looked out my window, decided someone had slipped LSD in the water supply, and stayed indoors."

"I tried to stay away from them myself," Harry said. "Worked out okay. No pony invasions in my alcove." This was probably for the best, because Bob would have managed to say something horrible. Bob always did.

"I'm not sure how they'd fit in an alcove anyway," Brooke said with a bit of a pout. "Not like there's much room."

"Hopefully we won't have to find out," Harry said. "Ever."

"In fact, I'm good with repressing. How about you?"

"I'm all for repressing," Harry said. "Though I didn't think other people being ponies was all that bad."

"People were ponies," she repeated, just in case that didn't sound weird to him. It should, dammit.

"I wasn't a pony though. So I didn't get really traumatized or anything."

Chad lifted a hand in a wave to his little sis. "How goes it?"

"It goes good!" she said with a big smile. "How are you doing? I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever."

"Doin' okay," Chad said, nodding a little. "Got a TA spot that means I get to model crap."

He figured, if anyone could appreciate this for how awesome it was, it was Brooke.

"Ooh!" Brooke said excitedly. "Congratulations! Wait, it's not like, really bad stuff, is it? I mean, it's quality?"

"Functional, if anything," Chad assured her with a nod. "Good stuff. Miss Lulu was even going to get me a nice tux for it, but we were going to do that on Saturday, and, well. Plans fell through, 'cause I was a pony."

"Yeah, that would mean some massive alterations there," she said seriously.

Yes, he was still going to call it an arm.

It was harder to blame the ponies on hallucinations due to a spiked water supply this way. "Did you have a tramp stamp too?"
