Scorpius Campfire, Sunday Evening

As it turned out, Jen didn't handle hangovers very well, which had something to do with the way she'd managed to completely miss out on any and all pony-related activities yesterday.

She could have been a pony for all she knew, but she'd been asleep through all of it thanks to the wonders of Aleve; apparently 21st-century painkillers had quite the effect on a 31st-century physiology unused to them. So yay for that, she supposed.

She'd managed to get a fire going -- a small and kind of ragged one, definitely not the kind of fire-building that would win a merit badge, but it was erratically crackling away as Jen went through some martial arts forms nearby. Sure, there was a gym on the campgrounds, but being around all these trees made her kind of nostalgic for the days when the best she'd had was that rope-wrapped tree in that Silver Hills park.

Besides, this was where she'd laid out the s'more makings. Duh.

[OOC: Open campfire is open!]

"That's wonderful," and he did think so, genuinely. He didn't know what was involved with it, or why anyone would want to do it, or what it even really meant, but he wanted to be positive. It was something of a defense mechanism.

"I'm sure you'll do well with that. This place has very good teachers."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I don't know," Chad said. "Actually, I did take a modeling class, and it was totally rigged. The guy who won it was the TA."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
He winced.

"That's unfortunate."

He lifted his chin.

"Miss Lulu won't do anything like that. She expected me to know what I was doing and to help others." Or perhaps he'd taken it upon himself to do that. "And she had me lead class a few times."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Chad nodded. "She's mostly just making me show off the fashions. Which works, because, well. Practise."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Practice is good. What's... involved with modeling?"

He was curious. And he might never find out again.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Showing off the clothing that designers make," Chad explained with a nod. He pointed over a little toward where Brooke was. "I've modeled Brooke's designs before, too, and I'm trying to get the attention of some designers in New York. You can also do print work, though, pose for advertisements and billboards and stuff."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh."

He thought it would be rude to ask what the point of something like that might be, so he didn't.

"What kind of clothes does she design?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Chad scratched the back of his neck a little. "Uhh, mostly sort of casual wear. She designed a bunch for the cheerleading fashion show; it was pretty cool..."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Are there any rules to it, or--"

It was obvious he was just trying to understand the concept as opposed to just being difficult.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Rules to what? Modeling?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded quickly.

"Rules, guidelines. Skills...?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh, you just...have to look good, I guess. Have a good walk, take a good picture, be able to show off the product well..."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh."

The idea of that was sort of odd to him. He supposed there was something to showing of the genuine drape off of a human frame, but he didn't know why you'd need to be a professional for that. He didn't want to be disheartening, though, so he nodded.

"That makes sense. Some people don't look good in pictures."

He'd seen that in books.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"And not everyone knows how to sell a product," Chad pointed out, "even if they do take good pictures. It's kind of like art. Y'know. Someone can paint really good, but their pictures still don't have that...um...oomph that connects with someone. Modeling can be kinda like that."

At least, Chad would keep telling himself that.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
That made more sense, and while it hadn't been terribly obvious to anyone watching that he hadn't understood on an intrinsic level before, it was more obvious that he did now.

"Some people can put their heart and care into their cooking more or less than others, let others feel through the food. A model is like that, then. Someone who can take all the things that make an outfit and make more than just a person in a costume out of it. Like a chef and ingredients."

It made sense to him.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Chad had to think about that for a second, to make sure he was really following, which, as it turned out he was. Or thought he was, at any rate.

"Yeah. Or a musician and his instrument or something..."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded.

"It sounds interesting," he admitted. "And I could see you especially being very good at it."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The ensuing, snorting grunt from Chad at that was partly amused, partly flattered, partly derisive. "Thanks," he shrugged. "I'm okay."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're expressive," he tried to explain. "Where most people just use their words. I imagine that would make a good model. That's all."

Trying to figure out anything on the aesthetics scale that wasn't food was pretty much doomed to failure for Liir.

He laughed.

"Then again, I just heard of the profession, so feel free to ignore anything I say."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Expressive? Chad scratched the back of his neck a little. "I don't think that's ever something I've been called before, Liir," he muttered, head tilted. "Thanks?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Liir didn't scratch the back of his neck, but he did duck his head.

"How have you been otherwise, if you don't mind me asking? There's been some wild things since the last time we spoke."

Beat.

"Were you a Pony yesterday?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Talking about the pony-ness, Chad decided, was better than talking about how he'd been. There were a lot of good things, of course, but then there was the one bad thing that he really didn't like talking about.

"Yeah; I had a sparkly arm." Yes. Arm. "Were you one, too?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was. I had wings. But more importantly, I could talk."

He breathed out.

"I had wondered why people always turned into animals instead of Animals, so this was a nice change."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"I turned into tea one," Chad said.

Because Chad was awesome at conversations, really.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Teddy told me," he said with a nod.

"...were you cognizant?"
