near the main campfire - tuesday afternoon
He lay in the grass, mostly because he could. It was a little damp since the day seemed to flutter between beautiful and damp, but he didn't much mind. He didn't catch colds too easily (perhaps the one dip in the well had been enough) and water didn't have any kind of adverse effect on him...
And it was nice out. Soothing. Almost as much as the church, it would let him think.

He reached over to pull up the broom from it's quiver.
"There isn't exactly a manual attached."

"Ma would die if she knew what I was about to do."

"Have you ever ridden a bike? It's a little like that."
And he held out the broom before slinging one leg over, resting his backside against the bulb of brush at the end.
no subject
"Um. So I'm just sittin' there, in front of you?"
no subject
"Lighter goes in front. Or, you know, less gawky."
He only held the broom with one hand so she had easy access to the broom handle.

That might change later, when his body actually grew into the bones, but for now that was true.
"And don't worry. We won't go anywhere until you're ready."
He leaned forward and looped his arms under hers to hold the handle.
"Just let me know when you're ready."
no subject
His arms under hers felt more secure to her and Amber leaned slightly back, trying for even more security. But she didn't let go of the handle; she had no place else to put her hands.
"I'm ready," she said quietly.

They were about a foot up by the time he finished.
no subject
"Oh my gosh," she replied in amazement because yes, part of her denied that this was ever truly possible. "This is incredible. Oh my gosh."

And he commended himself for his control that there wasn't even a hint of a laugh in his tone.
"If you pull the handle up, we'll drift up. Down and we'll go back down to the ground.
no subject
"Okay..." Amber nodded and pulled up on the handle. Hopefully not too much.

"I come up on the broom when I need to feel... disconnected, I supposed. Away. But it's nice to go with someone else. At least I've always thought so."

She looked down, over her left side. An easy jump if they fell. Not too bad.
She lifted again on the handle of the broom. "I would imagine if I had this at my disposal, I would do it often."
no subject
He smiled at her as they lifted another few feet.

Amber let go of the handle and went to hold over his. She didn't want to be in control, especially when she knew nothing about this flying stuff, at all.
She also wiggled slightly, locking her ankles beneath her.
"Okay, I'm ready for you to go higher."
no subject
"All right," he said quietly before lifting them very slowly a little higher. They were about a story up now.
"Just let me know if you want to go back down and we will."
no subject
"How high do you usually go?"
no subject
"It's all flying."
no subject
Everything lately for her was about taking chances. This was certainly one of them.

Then he pulled it towards the sky and flew.

There it was. Flying. Everything fantastic in the world in the rush of air past you and the feel of the world so far away but spread out before you, all yours.
He loved it. He loved it like nothing else. And getting to show it to someone else was one of the best things in this or any world.
