Cheerleading Exhibition; The Gym; Saturday Afternoon [ 10/25 ]

It was time for the cheerleaders to go about and do their thing in showing all the family and friends of the student body their school spirit! The gym, of course, was decorated in blue and gold, with a giant, sparkly "GO GREMLINS" banner, and there was up-tempo, bass-thumping music spilling out of the speakers as the cheerleaders got read and the audience filed in.

"Yeah, we're kinda fond of that, too."

Hey, look! Smart-ass!

He let out a laugh.

"How are you liking it here, Eve?"

"I'm loving it here," she said honestly. "I've got my daughter, I've got some great friends, and I've got a boyfriend who adores me."

"Boyfriend?"

... whoops?

"Uh, yeah," Eve said. "His name's Adam -- and no jokes or I'll punch you." She really would, too.

He looked at her. "Why haven't I heard about this young man?"

"Uh... I don't know? I'm kinda surprised you haven't heard about him by now, really. Savannah's a chatterbox."

"Yes, she is, but she also tends to be very protective of you and Sean."

"Which... might be why she's never mentioned Adam."

Never mind that Eve could've mentioned him. See this? This was her avoiding that.

"You could have told me, you know. You're my ward, Eve," he reminded her. "Your happiness and well-being are just as important to me as Savannah's."

"I know. It's just... awkward talking to people about some stuff."

"What kind of person is your young man?"

"He's... good. Gentle. Kind. And oh God, so loyal."

"Does he know about who you and Savannah are? Are you safe with him?"

"Yes, he does and yes, we are."

He was silent for a long moment. "He can protect you?"

"He can," she said with a nod.

"That's the important thing," he said quietly.

"And he cares for me a great deal," Eve said. "That's the other important thing."

Benicio looked at her and then nodded. "It is important that he cares for you. We'd have problems if he didn't."

Eve knew what kind of problems Benicio meant, so all she did was whimper slightly.

He smiled at her. "As long as he treats you well, then he has no need to worry."

"He treats me very well," she assured Benicio, partly because it was true and partly because of an urge to keep her boyfriend's body parts attached to his body.

"Tell me about Johnny Storm, Eve."

"Bwuh?" Oh, real intelligent, Eve. "He's Savannah's boyfriend. They've been together a little over a year. ... why?"
