Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

The fifth-floor common room had been transformed into a riot of color and sound by the two intrepid decorators. When you had Rikku and Dōjima doing the artistic design, and they were basing it off of Romeo's collection of loud shirts, it was bound to be, ah, creative.

There were balloons and streamers everywhere, and the party even had some piñatas full of candy for people to swing at. Simply because everyone (Rikku) liked candy, and Dōjima was a fan of party games that made other people look like idiots.

"Party love should be cultivated," Ino informed him. "It's important."

To her at least.

A grin. "Ninja-style. Exactly."

Cal nodded. And then shook his head. "You ninjas," he commented. "And I'm here without coaxing and I'm actually talking to people. That's as much party love as you'll ever cultivate from me, I'm afraid."

"Just one ninja tonight." Complete with stuck out tongue. "And it's good you're here without coaxing 'cause most of my normal routes for it would be depressingly curtailed, I think."

"How do you mean?" Cal asked, head shifting warily.

"Well," Ino said. "I doubt you'd work with with me yelling and threatening and throwing things." Which is what Shikamaru and Chouji had to deal with sometimes back home.

"And while I probably could come up with several good reasons for you to come to a party, by the time I did so you'd probably have come up with good reasons to not go. The pout still has a good bit of potential, admittedly, but over-use of it is a bad thing. Same with bribery. And..." ...she shrugged a bit. "I have no idea how you'd react to my last way of getting boys, at least, out."

The specification of boys did not slip Cal's notice.

"What's the last way?"

Ino twirled a bit of hair around one finger as she contemplated her answer.

A shrug. "Coming on strong."

"Stronger than just yelling and shouting and shoving?"

Ino resisted the urge to facepalm. Barely.

"Not that kind of strong." You dork. And that was said fondly.

"What...other kind of strong would there be?"

Of course, Cal did have an idea. But his idea being applied by Ino was something that didn't quite compute logically in his brain.

Possibly because he couldn't imagine her using that on him in any recent memory at all, which was pretty disheartening if he thought about it too much.

Ino put her hands on her hips.

"You can't seriously be that thick," she said, mostly amused. "I'm not above using my feminine wiles to get what I want."

"You've never used your feminine wiles against me," Cal argued, brows frowning as he tried to understand exactly what he thought of that. "I only get yelled at and pouts!"

He was now remembering that last radio he did, too, and he clicked his tongue slightly in petulant annoyance. Girls were way too selective in their wiles.

"You had a girlfriend," she reminded him. "And I might not have the whole... not-cheating thing down to a science, but I'm not that thick. And before that..."

That got a bit of a shrug. "Wasn't sure what you'd think."

Cal felt himself go a little red in the face; Ino probably did have a good point there, although, really, he always felt she'd totally overreacted with his whole thing about hugs at first, and, well, now she knew why he was like that.

Kind of.

Part of it.

"Don't have one now," he pointed out, quietly, but, almost before that even got out, he tacked on an addendum in a much stronger, bolder voice, "but now I know your evil plot and will be immune so don't even think of trying it!"

Poor Cal didn't even know if that was sincere or the worst attempt at reverse psychology in the world.

"No, you don't, but..." she said, tilting her head at him. Well, really, she didn't even know what was going on with Ichigo and if anything would count as cheating.

A beat.

"And you wouldn't know when, or where, I'd strike so I'm sure I could totally catch you off guard."

"That suggests," Cal reminded her, "that I ever let my guard off in things like that. You know I don't."

Only after they'd gotten well past that point and even then...He'd even always made Amber turn out the lights.

"That too," she sighed, rolling her eyes. "Even though a good make-out session is totally an easy way to get some people to do things for me."

Cal cleared his throat a little. "You go with that tact often, Ino?" he asked, with no judgment in his voice at all. Really. None.

Okay, maybe some; the little look he gave her probably didn't help, either, but, really, who used make out sessions for leverage?

Thought the boy who slept with his best friend's brother to get back at her for liking another guy.

She tossed her head. "Mostly with Kabuto, when he was here," Ino said, steadily staring at him. "And since we were dating, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. And done it a few times to Ichigo since."

"Make-out sessions and getting flashed," Cal muttered. "I don't think I know this Ichigo guy, but," he kind of hated him at that moment, "he's a lucky son of a bitch."

"It's fun to make him spaz," she said, by way of explanation. "And he's not that lucky, or he'd have a saner dad."

"If I had to pick a sane dad or boobs," Cal remarked, "I'd pick boobs."

Of course, his father had been sane and was dead and therefor no longer a threat; he even had the Greek Orthodox tradition supporting him in knowing that, since he stood guard at the door during the funeral, Milton would not come back to haunt him, beyond the ever-there imprint of messed up genes.

Ino laughed. "Yeah, well, so would he. But he'd also rather his dad didn't go 'round asking if I'd made a 'man' out of him yet. And being generally creepy."

"...His dad did that?"

"Didn't even ask my name first!" Ino made a face. "Mental."
