The first weird thing was that Claire woke up early during her week off.

The second weird thing was that she didn't just want to hang out in her room all day. So she took her sketchbook and a set of pastels and went to the common room to curl up on a couch and draw ... she wasn't sure yet. It might just be her coffee mug. Maybe her coffee mug in spaaaaaaace.

The TV was on and tuned to some soap opera, but Claire wasn't paying enough attention to say what it was about.

"I don't have that much to whine about, actually." Though, he knew he could find things. "I wish it snowed. I dislike all this warm weather. I'm used to bitter cold and not feeling my face when I walk outside. I do miss snow."

"It's weird, I was all ready for there to actually be snow here, but the East Coast is a lot warmer than people told me it was," Claire said, a little disappointment in her voice. "Where are you from where it's freezing?"

"A place called Coeur d'Coeurs," he said with some fondness in his voice. "Um, it's a really small town. It's probably not even on the map. They had a sunflower field and...that's about it. Well, besides the snow."

"Pretty name, anyhow," Claire said. "It sounds ... really peaceful."

"It was," he replied with a slight nod. "In retrospect, I think it'd be called boring these days. But, it was nice. It was a good place to grow up."

For the little bit of time he'd lived there.

"Unless you were allergic to sunflowers."

"Yeah, if you were allergic you'd pretty much have to stay inside all the time," Claire said, wrinkling her nose a little. "But boring's not that bad, when you're a kid. Plus, I grew up in the city and it's not like I was partying in Hollywood every night."

"What sort of things could a kid do in Hollywood?" Ned asked. "I've never been in a really huge city."

"In Hollywood itself, nothing really except the tourist things," Claire said thoughtfully. "But there's a lot of stuff in the city, museums and parks and all that. I always begged my dad to take me to Disneyland until I got sick of it."

She leaned her chin on a hand. "I don't know if you'd like cities, if crowds bug you."

"Probably not," Ned agreed. "But I've never been to Disneyland and I did always want to go even if the idea of a giant mouse kind of freaked me out."

Claire bit a thumbnail in thought. "He wears clothes, too. It's kind of wrong. Maybe Fandom is training for Disneyland."

"He just looks so top heavy," Ned said. "I mean, what if his head got too heavy and he sort of fell on...someone?"

"They'd probably sue Disney for a couple million dollars for trauma?" Claire suggested. "Wait, we're talking about the guys in costumes, right?"

It had taken her possibly longer than it should have to realize that.

"Guys in the costumes, yeah," Ned said. "The mouse especially because his head is huge. And scary. Imagine waking up to that in your face."

Claire burst out laughing. "That would mean you'd had a really interesting night," she suggested.

"Well, yeah," he said and shivered at the thought of that. "Oh god, I made an allusion to waking up with the giant mouse and his giant head."

"At Disneyland," Claire reminded him. "I think you go to Hell for that."

"Greaaaaaaaat," Ned said and covered his face and the rapidly spreading blush. "It's too hot in Hell for me. I'm too tall and I'll sweat and I'd prefer not to live with a sunburn. I have fair skin."

Claire was still laughing. Poor Ned. "If it helps, I'm probably going too, and my skin's even paler," she pointed out.

"We can share a train ride," he said and laughed. "Or a bus ride. Buses are worse than trains and they'd have the worst form of transportation down there."

"A crowded bus," Claire said, making a face. "Oh, and it would smell like somebody's lunch and the people sitting in front of us would spend the whole time arguing about something I never ever wanted to know about."

"And that little bathroom they have would be out of order..." Ned winced. "...because it was clogged. So, that would add to the stench."

"Y'know, maybe we don't actually get to hell. Maybe the bus is enough," Claire said, looking pretty disgusted.

"Maybe...hell is the bus?" Ned proposed.

"And the driver keeps saying you're almost to the end of the line and you just never get there," Claire nodded. "Oh, and you didn't bring anything to read, so you just have to sit."

"Hell,' she concluded, "is totally a bus."

"Oh god, I don't wanna go to hell," he said and made a face. "I can't spend the entirety of my afterlife on a bus."
