The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD ~~about to go~~ up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

"Hey, Ino," Tony waved. "Haven't talked to you in ages. How's it going?"

She grinned at him. "It's going!" Ino chirped. "Rather well if I ignore the giant wall of evil that starts with a 'g' and ends with an 'n', 'cause that sucks, but pretty good. I get to install grass in Tahiri's dorm room! You?"

"We have our first audience for the play tonight." Tony blinked. "Did you say glass or grass?"

"Ooooh!" she said, beaming. "I probably won't go tonight 'cause of party, but I'll totally have to show up at another showing!" Ino laughed. "I said grass. You know, green, grows on ground, feels nice underfoot?"

"Oh, I think I've heard of it!" Tony grinned. "That's the green bits that pop up in cement cracks sometimes?"

She nodded mock-solemnly. "It comes up through the cement, ruins perfectly good sidewalks, and can grow really tall if you don't mow it down now and then."

"Right, that stuff. You're installing that in a dorm room? How does that work?"

"It's a huge hassle from what I've understood about it so far," she said easily. "New flooring needs to be put in--so there's good drainage, you know, and watering the grass'll be interesting--and then getting the grass up and making sure it doesn't freak out about the transplant, and then she's covering the lighting issue."

She tugged at her hair. "It's neat, but kinda complicated."

"It sounds awesome," Tony said. "Weird, but awesome. Would it be the entire floor? Or just bits?"

"Whole floor," she said, nodding. "And they're switching up the furniture and putting patio furniture inside."

"Way cool," Tony said. "I want to see how it turns out."

She bounced a bit. "I know! It's not even my room, and yet I'm excited about it. Lucky for me, she's just down the hall from me."

Tony grinned. "Oh! That reminds me. Do you still work at the flower shop? I want to get something for Dinah for opening night."

"Oooh, that's so sweet!" she said, beaming. "I do still work there. What did you need?"

"Flowers?" He shrugged. "I have no idea what kind they should be."

She giggled. "When's opening night? I mean, besides tonight? Um... you probably don't want roses, 'less they're yellow ones--yellow is friendship..."

"Sunday," Tony said. "Tonight's just a preview. And... friendship's good, but maybe something other than roses?"

"Oh, totally," she said, "um, coreopsis? It means 'always cheerful' and is normally bright yellow. Or marjoram? Maybe snapdragons? They mean--oooh, sweetpea! It means 'thank you for a lovely time' which, obviously, could be used for a date, but the way you're giving it to her, considering the show, it'd mean the show and nothing else."

Tony wasn't sure what any of those flowers looked like. "They all sound good," he said. "Are there other colors than yellow?"

"Oh sure," she said, "Snapdragons come in all sorts--blue, white, red, yellow, orange, pink, several shades of purple. Sweetpea is about the same, though the shades are a bit different, and marjoram tends to be a bit more muted--dark purpley, deep pink... along those lines."

"Marjoram, then, I think," Tony said. "It sounds like those might match her costume."

"Excellent," she said, grinning. "Glad I could help, yeah?"

"Thank you," Tony smiled. "I hope she likes them. Are you sticking around for the summer?"

"As far as I know," she said, with a bit of a bounce. "I mean, probably get called home for missions now and then? But so far so good on the sticking around for the most part. You?"

"Most of it, yeah. I may go back to Vancouver for a little bit, though," Tony said.
