The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD ~~about to go~~ up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

Triela flashed her roommate a quick grin from the edge of the party. "No bun?" she mouthed, clearly amused.

Amber shook her head, grinning at her roommate. "Just the weiner," she mouthed back, her own eyes flashing with amusement.

Triela just shook her head in amusement. Amber was a great roommate and friend, but sometimes she was weird.

Hey, sometimes the meat was better without all the extra stuff.

Just sayin'.

She stuck her tongue out at Triela.

That got an eye roll from Triela. Sometimes Amber was also immature.

Then Triela stuck her tongue out in return.

Sometimes, she most certainly was.

Amber giggled.

Then she grabbed a cheery tomato and lobbed it towards Triela's forehead.

Triela snatched it out of the air without any apparent effort. She shot Amber an exasperated look. Really? Had they stooped so low?

She shook her head sadly and decided to wait to see if Amber would turn away so she could lob it back.

Amber knew that Triela couldn't be upset with her. She was pretending. It was just a wee tomato for crying out loud.

But... on the off chance -- she lowered her eyes and twisted up her lips, looking down at her plate. Perhaps if she appeared contrite...

... Triela would have a perfect opportunity to lob the tomato right back at Amber's nose? Hopefully that was the plan, because it is what happened.

And she wasn't expecting it so her shocked expression, after that tomato pinged off her nose, landed on Triela.

Of course, she really shouldn't be that surprised, should she? Amber knew all kinds of dorm room prank tricks and she was betting Triela didn't. Why, Triela just might climb into her bed tonight with the sheets shorted. Hah!

Amber grinned slowly at her roommate while walking over towards her.

"So... what's up?"

"Not much," Triela grinned, without any inkling of her impending doom. "Came to a birthday party." She had a nondescript paper bag tucked under one arm.

"How about you?"

Sometimes Amber was perceptive. "What's in the bag?"

"Dinah's birthday present," Triela answered, grinning a bit at the sort of non-answer.

"Yah? Whatcha get her?" Curious Amber asked. "Uh? What?"

"Boots," Triela said firmly. She'd eventually decided against a tie. Which didn't seem really Dinah's speed.

"Boots. Because she likes boots?"

Triela blinked. "I hope so." She didn't really pay attention to that sort of thing. But Triela liked boots... and they were nice boots...

"I'm sure she'll like the boots. Who wouldn't like boots? And she does all that hanging off the roof and stuff so boots are definitely birthday gift appropriate," she said, nodding. "Dinah will love them, Triela."

"I sort of had to guess at her size." But Triela was actually rather good at that, so she wasn't actually worried.

"Well, you're kind of perfect, Triela. I bet you did just fine, size wise." Amber was still short-sheeting her bed though.

"Well, I do know boots," Triela admitted. Modesty had never been a strong suit.

"Of course you do," she replied, her lips quirking upwards. Triela never failed to amuse her. "Do you want to know what I got her?"

Triela raised an eyebrow. "Do I?" she asked teasingly.

Grinning, she shifted from one foot to the next and clasped her hands together behind her back. "Nahhhh, you don't want to know," she teased back.

"Okay then," Triela nodded, careful to suppress a grin of her own. She was totally serious.
