The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD ~~about to go~~ up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

"Trust Dinah to purchase just about anything that's got sugar in it," Arthur continued, eying his cup.

"I'm almost certain that the meat doesn't have any sugar in it."

Arthur shot him an amused look. "Have you tried it yet?" he said, "I really wouldn't put it past her."

"Have you?" That was a no, Arthur.

"I'm half-convinced I should have you taste half of this for me, make sure I don't find myself with a-- what do they call it?"

He fished out a piece of sausage. "'Sugar rush'."

That got him an eyeroll. "It's hardly poison, Arthur."

"We'll see about that," he announced, spearing the sausage with his fork before shoving it into his mouth.

Merlin had not leaned in curiously. At all. "...Well?"

"It's actually quite good," Arthur decided. After he'd swallowed, like a good boy. "Try some."

"Is it?" Merlin reached over to spear himself one to try.

"I did say so," he said, took some more, and then glanced over the table for the cake.

"You'd also say that if you thought you could get a laugh out of making me eat something horrid," Merlin reminded him dryly.

But he did take a bite.

"Your faith in me is touching, Merlin."

Well, he would, but not this time. Hush.

"Are you implying you wouldn't?"

Arthur put yet more sausage on his plate, and shot Merlin a meaningful look over it. "If you're not hungry..."

"I have quite a bit of faith in you," Merlin reminded him dryly, giving him the sausage. "But I'm not an idiot."

"You sure?" Arthur asked, automatically, took the sausage, and ate it.

Hey, Merlin's loss.

"Less and less so the more I follow you," Merlin shot back, going for a burger.

Oh, no, Arthur wasn't going to cajole for Merlin's attention like some--

Well, Francine.

"I wouldn't let you get poisoned," he offered, dryly. "That'd be a waste of a quarter-way decent manservant."

Merlin waved a cheeseburger at him, not rising to that one. "I like these better. You ought to try it."

Rise to what? It was a compliment! Sort of. For Arthur's standards.

"I've had one of those before," he said, "Chad brought it up to the room. Not bad."

Because really, the entire universe lived to bend to Arthur's whims.

However he survived was a mystery to Merlin sometimes. "Have you tried pizza yet? It's wonderful."

"No," Arthur said, shooting the spread another idle glance. "Which one's that?"

"Not here, but it's one of the good things they have. It's not raw for one."

"Oh, that," Arthur said. Hey, look, his focus was back on Merlin. "I'm still a bit fuzzy on how you managed to walk into that one."
