Third floor common room, Monday evening

Knowing she was going to be taking another trip home, Jaina had spent most of her day handwavily prepping: flight sim, lightsaber drills (she remembered last time, thanks), and then was trying to catch up on reports in her room till her comlink finally began driving her crazy.

Knowing she was more or less going to be able to answer all those calls personally anyway, she took her datapad out to the common room to work, and after a couple minutes of silence turned on the TV for background noise.

So it was her own fault that she kept looking up surreptitiously from her work to see what was going on in the Space Battles movies. What? It was interesting.

Hurley poked his head into the common room, then quickly went to settle in on a couch.

"I love these movies," he declared. They might help take his mind off people leaving.

"I don't think I've ever seen them," Jaina admitted. If she had, she didn't remember it, anyway. "I've heard of them before?"

"They're awesome," Hurley said. "I've seen 'em, like, a hundred times."

Jaina looked at him. "Seriously?" She'd never seen anything that often.

"Okay, not like, a hundred a hundred," Hurley said. "But I kinda wore out the tapes when I was twelve."

"A little redundant to say you're sort of a fan, huh?" she asked, one corner of her mouth turning up.

"Heh, yeah," Hurley said. "I'm kinda a dork, I guess."

It was the sound effects that caught Tahiri's attention as she passed by.

". . . what are you watching?"

"Why? I've seen people do some weird things for sporting events back home. I think you're allowed to watch a movie a lot," she said.

"Space Battles," Jaina said, simply pretending past awkwardness wasn't there right now. "The explosions are good for thinking."

"Heh, good point," Hurley said. "Not like I ever went shirtless in a freezing football stadium covered in body paint."

"One of the best movies ever," Hurley told his roomie.

Tahiri wasn't thinking about past awkwardness. "I kind of thought you'd be telling the TV that this doesn't actually work that way."

"Why am I not surprised you think so?" Tahiri asked him.

"Dude, can I really surprise you at all?" Hurley asked.

"Believe it or not, it is possible," Tahiri said, deadpan.

"You're always at least one step ahead of me," Hurley said.

"Thank you for not being desperate enough to end up on the television by being insane," she told him.

"I used to try that, it doesn't listen," she explained. "Besides, I've seen much worse now. It just means I want to get in my X-wing and do it right."

"Not always," Tahiri pointed out. "You definitely beat me in the junk food stash department."

"Dude, I'm not crazy," Hurley said. "I'm totally content to avoid, like, stupid fame like that."

"You could possibly do it wrong?" Tahiri asked, like it hadn't even occurred to her.

Someone might be overcompensating for the past awkwardness she totally wasn't thinking about, just a little.

"I did once blow myself up," Jaina pointed out. Come to think of it, she wasn't sure if Tahiri really had known about that.

Hurley chuckled. "Yeah. So if we're ever attacked by something allergic to brownies, I can save the day."

"I never understood why people did that," she confessed. "Boredom? Attention-seeking? Mental disorder?"
