FDR Campfire, Wednesday evening

Shilo had decided to celebrate a successful first day at work with a fire. So she'd found some kindling, an old newspaper, and matches, and was building a fire the same way that her father had taught her how to in the fireplace.

She didn't know if it worked the same way for a campfire, but she could only hope. Besides, it wasn't as if she was planning on this being someone's funeral pyre. Just a small campfire, and hopefully some company.

She suddenly wondered if she should have stopped for s'mores supplies.

Momoko was wandering around and just enjoying the evening when she saw the campfire and, "Ah! Future new roommie! Hi hi!" She skipped over to the fire and grinned at Shilo. "Nice evening! Can I sit too? How are you getting along? Have you had any workshops yet?"

Shilo saw Momoko and smiled. "Hi Momoko. Yes, I'm fine, and yes, two out of my four I'm taking. How about you?"

"Four? Wow! You have any fun ones or are they all hard?" Momoko plopped down and raised a finger. "I had one today! Criminal Justice! It's going to be interesting for just a summer workshop! Then I have two more. I'm only taking three this summer. Have you explored much of the island?"

"Well, I've been to drama and archeology, and they were both interesting. I think storytelling will be fun. Superhero fashion... well... I'll wait until I've been in it tomorrow to decide." Shilo was still wondering how she'd ended up in that class. "I've been around the dorms and I went to town. I even got a job, at the York Gallery."

"Wow, a job so soon? That's cool! I guess you don't need a tour, then! If you want a good lunch, you should try Cafe Fina! The staff are really nice and it's really close to the dorms." Momoko hesitated. "Which isn't very helpful now, of course, but when we move back..." She shrugged.

"You have Superhero Fashion tomorrow?! I'm in that too! I'm hoping it's like the modeling workshop from last summer. That was fun!"

"Oh great! I'll have two people I know in it. Merlin told me to look for his girlfriend, Francine. I have no idea what I'll do for a 'superhero' costume, but hopefully it'll be fun."

"I hope it's fun too! I haven't met this teacher yet, but at least it's not Captain Hammer! Francine's in our class? Yay! That's cool! She's nice. I don't know her boyfriend, I don't think. Wait... Merlin?" She pinched her lip. "He might be in my workshop from today. I kind of wasn't paying too much attention to the people after I got the huge list of cool supplies we're gonna use."

"So! Where are you from again? Did I mention I was from Tokyo City, Japan?"

"I'm from New York City. Except my New York is in the year 2056." Shilo tried to remember if Momoko had mentioned her hometown. "I guessed Japan myself, but not Tokyo specifically. That's really cool!"

Another person from the future! Cool! "Tokyo City. It's apparently different in this world - stuff happened in another way at some time or something. I looked it up on the web when I got here but couldn't really figure it out beyond the fact that we're different. There's lots of us from different worlds, though, so I don't feel bad." She tilted her head and grinned. "New York is pretty cool, too, though! It must be weird being on a small island when you're used to such a big city!"

"It's actually a pretty nice change of pace," Shilo replied. "It doesn't seem so... threatening."

Momoko held her tongue. Somehow. For a whole three seconds.

"Well, yeah. Usually. Until some weirdness happens. Fandom likes to make weird stuff happen. Did anyone warn you about the weirdness?" She wasn't going to mention the zombies. "It's usually not threatening, just... weird."

"Yeah, Robin gave me a heads up about it when we met at the picnic," Shilo replied. "I guess I'll just have to see how weird 'Fandom weird' really is."

"Hi Momoko! Have you met many new kids yet?"

"Hi Robin!" Momoko waved and grinned. "Not many! But Shilo, here, is my new roommate when we get back to the dorms and she's a new student! You?"

"I haven't met any except Shilo." Robin said, intrigued by the coincidence.

"Now that's a funny coincidence! I had a few of the new people in class, today, but I haven't really spoken with many of them. Oh, and there are some new teachers, too!"

"I've met a few of those." Robin nodded. "Which classes are you taking? I've had three of mine so far. Archeology, Drama, and Civil War Reenactment."

"I had Criminal Justice today with Mister Gibbs. Tomorrow I have Superhero Fashion and Friday..." She reached into her pocket and pulled out her class schedule. "Friday is 'Teevee for Beginners' - I have a feeling that's going to be my favourite of all of them! I only have three this session, but I think all of my teachers are new! At least I've never heard of them."

"I had such a hard time narrowing it down to only four." Robin giggled. "Teevee sounds like fun."

"I know! I totally had a hard time picking! And I certainly hope Teevee is fun. I almost didn't pick it because it says beginner and all, but in the end I couldn't resist! What's your fourth class?"

"How to dress like a Pop Star. It sounds cool, like a class I took my first summer here about how to dress like a Goth."

"If there hadn't been the class on superhero fashion I would have taken that one! The pop-star one, I mean, since the goth one was from before. I took the modeling class with Mr Deadpool last summer and I like wearing fashionable clothes. My friend back home is studying to be a designer!"

"I like wearing clothes sometimes. Especially really cool ones."
