FDR Campfire, Wednesday evening

Shilo had decided to celebrate a successful first day at work with a fire. So she'd found some kindling, an old newspaper, and matches, and was building a fire the same way that her father had taught her how to in the fireplace.

She didn't know if it worked the same way for a campfire, but she could only hope. Besides, it wasn't as if she was planning on this being someone's funeral pyre. Just a small campfire, and hopefully some company.

She suddenly wondered if she should have stopped for s'mores supplies.

"Halt!" Yakko called out, rushing over while wearing a scout uniform. "Have you been properly instructed in fire safety?"

"Hi there! Mind if I borrow your fire? I have marshmallows and chocolate," said Harper, spotting Shilo with a working fire. It might have been dangerous for Harper to try starting a campfire at her own cabin.

Oh good God. Another talking animal.

And animal was the best classification Shilo could give this... person.

"Y-yes? By my father?" she replied.

"Sure!" Shilo replied, eager for more toasted marshmallow goodness. "You're in my drama class, right? Your name's escaping me right now."

"Right! My name's Harper," she said, taking a seat and pulling a bag of marshmallows out of her shopping bag. "I'm not sure I got your name either, since we didn't actually do real introductions."

"So you know that all fires should be put out by smothering them in marshmallows?" Yakko asked. He took his hat off and pulled a very large bag of marshmallows that clearly shouldn't have been able to fit out of it.

"And remember, always carry a spare set of clothes just in case you stop, drop, and roll into a giant pile of marshmallows."

Well, Shilo wasn't going to complain about the chance for more marshmallows! Or question the physics that allowed him to hide that bag in his hat... "I do now," she replied. "I'm Shilo. What's your name?"

"True. I'm Shilo," she replied. "From the looks of things we're either going to have plenty of marshmallows or can expect a ton of people to join us."

"I guess so. But this is fun. I've never gotten to sit around a campfire before. We don't do a lot of camping in New York City," said Harper.

"I'm a Warner Brother!" Yakko said proudly. "But you can just call me Yakko."

"You're from New York City too?" Shilo asked, sounding excited as she took the longest sticks she could get from the leftover kindling.

Yakko took the line about stealing fire as a cue to sing a song about the myth of Prometheus stealing fire from the Greek gods. No, I am not writing the song.

After a minute of edutational singing, he asked Harper, "How doooooooo you do?"

"Yeah! My friend Alex and I both went to Tribeca Prep, and then Alex transferred to Fandom High last year," said Harper. "It just wasn't any fun without her, though, so I transferred myself in January."

"I'm fine, thanks," said Harper, looking curiously at Yakko. "You're either a new student or... someone's pet, I think."

"It's nice to meet you, Yakko," Shilo replied, any and all cultural references going over her head. "Thanks for contributing your marshmallows."

"You're lucky!" Shilo replied. "I'd love to have had a friend already here. Not that everyone hasn't been super-nice to me."

"It was actually easier to make friends here in Fandom than at my old school," said Harper. "But Tribeca Prep had this big clique of mean girls who all followed this one girl named Gigi. She was awful! Without someone like her around, it's a lot nicer."

Yakko was suddenly sitting behind a podium, doing his best Regis Philbin impression.

"You only have two to choose from now. B) New Student or D) Someone's Pet. Do you think you can guess which is the correct answer from here, or would you like to use another Lifeline? You still have Poll the Audience, and Phone a Friend."

Shilo thought of Amber briefly, and shuddered to herself. "Well, it seems like Fandom doesn't have any cliques," she said. "Or at least none I've seen."

"Remember, those are just for fire extinguishing," Yakko said. He reached into his pocket and pulled out an even larger bag of marshmallows. "But THIS is for eating!"

Shilo let out a giggle. "Well, thank you for both kinds of marshmallows, then."

She remembered watching this game show with her grandma. "Ooooh, can I Poll the Audience?" asked Harper.

"I haven't seen a lot of them either. Everyone here seems to be happy to be themselves, and there's no one person that everyone wants to imitate," said Harper.

"Why are you thanking me? These are just for me. Get your own!" Yakko said, hugging the bag territorially.

Momoko was wandering around and just enjoying the evening when she saw the campfire and, "Ah! Future new roommie! Hi hi!" She skipped over to the fire and grinned at Shilo. "Nice evening! Can I sit too? How are you getting along? Have you had any workshops yet?"
