LBJ Campfire, Monday Evening

Chuck didn't know who started the campfire outside his cabin but he was glad that someone did. He was capable of working a lighter but that whole Boy Scout-y wood and newspaper in the optimal fire starting position thing was lost on him. So when people did the hard stuff for him he was appreciative. Silently appreciative. He wasn't about to be thanking people out loud.

Now he was sitting back against a log with a joint in his hand and was debating going back inside the cabin to grab marshmallows. Maybe after the munchies set in.

[Open! You will keep me entertained whilst I wait for the Gossip Girl finale]

"But then all the mystery is gone," Valentine said, her expression apologetic. "But all I will say, for your own protection, is to just chew very thoroughly."
bitten_notshy: (no really.)

"... Pretzels," Jack said slowly, just to make sure this conversation hadn't taken a turn somewhere that he had missed. "You're an interesting woman, Valentine."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I've got nothing to do with it," Valentine said. She never did, right? "It's just an interesting place, Jack."
bitten_notshy: (b+w casual)

"Where snack foods might attack," Jack said. "... though I suppose after raining glitter, attacking bread products would be the logical next step."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Grinning a little, Valentine tapped her nose with her finger. "Now you're catching on."
bitten_notshy: (laughing like a dork)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I am a quick one," he reported. "And I'll keep an eye out for any foodstuffs with an evil look in their eyes."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Pretzels don't have eyes, Jack," Valentine stated plaintively.
bitten_notshy: (happy boy)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"They do at home," he lied with a sunny smile. "Pretzel eyes are a delicacy. I'm sad to hear it's not the same here."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Valentine chuckled a little. "That is a shame. Here, we just have to be satisfied with snails and fish eggs."
bitten_notshy: (looking off to the side)

Jack had been raised to keep Kosher enough to avoid escargot and caviar, but he was sophisticated enough not to find either especially disgusting. His lips twitched.

"No cow brains?" he asked. "Or did you just forget to mention them?"

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm actually more partial to monkey brains," Valentine said.
bitten_notshy: (no really.)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"That's much more disgusting than pretzel eyes," Jack claimed. "I won't even try to top it."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Awww," Valentine's shoulders slumped a little. "That's really too bad. I have a whole list of them."

Ah, the lesser known benefits of having brothers...Because even brilliant children loved being gross.

"I'm lacking in that respect," Jack said, amused at the disappointment. "Give me a few hours, and I could come up with some."

He considered it. "Eel? Blood sausage? Rat?"

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Cockroaches, bug guts, live tarantula, dolphin snouts..."
bitten_notshy: (considering this)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
And now Jack was just staring.

"... I think I'm off my meals for the next three days," he exaggerated. (He'd forget as soon as he was offered food again.)

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Valentine grinned a little. "I have two brothers," she said. "Trying to gross me out over breakfast could be an artform."
bitten_notshy: (dark shirt hi there)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"And I'm an only child, more or less," Jack said. "I don't think you could disgust my guardian. I never saw that as a disadvantage before."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Definitely not a disadvantage," Valentine nodded. "I pride my own ability to avoid disgust."
bitten_notshy: (pacing)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Do things that go bump in the night frequently jump out at you, or is this about your brothers again?"

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Valentine grinned a little wryly.

Everything's about my brothers.

"Mostly column B," she said. "But only because I can't say things that go bump in the night do jump at me all that much."
bitten_notshy: (no really.)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"You need to watch," Jack said, still lightly. "That might change here."

Though," he added, "I can't say my life is rich in things jumping out at me, either."

The vampires he had known were never the sort.

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Valentine couldn't help quirking an eyebrow. Because when someone said something might change, they were usually referring to the fact that it was going to.

And she had a feeling they weren't talking about pretzels here.

"I hear that generally changes if you spend too much time here, anyway."
bitten_notshy: (arrogant)

[personal profile] bitten_notshy 2009-05-19 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"That does seem to be the message they're spreading, at least," Jack said, and aimed a rather sudden smile at her. "I suppose we'll know when it gets here."
