Benjamin Harrison Campfire - Late Wednesday Evening

Five days since Rose had seen Lissa, and that was longer than she remembered since they'd met sitting next to each other in kindergarten.  When she was by herself, she couldn't stop mentally poking at that oddly blank spot in her head where Lissa was supposed to be.  Every once and a while, Rose could almost feel a whisper of emotion from the spot, but it was never constant.  It was never the way their bond had always been.

She'd tried to tire herself out today, but she couldn't fall asleep so Rose got up and headed out to the unlit campfire.  She scavenged some bread and peanut butter and sat at the campfire to occupy herself by ripping up the slices and throwing pieces into the firepit.

Worf was not much for sleeping. In fact he was just coming back from his run through the preserve when he spied the activity at the campfire.

"Typically most people light a fire in the evening," Worf observed.

Yes. That was a greeting.

"I don't know how," Rose admitted. She looked up to the new guy and her eyes widened. "But if you do, go for it."

Worf let out a grunt. "Very well. But you are to observe this method so you can start one on your own next time."

Rose choked on her laughter as she tried to keep a straight face. "But people always come by to light it eventually," she pointed out.

"Perhaps a time will come when no one is around," Worf said seriously as he started to assemble the fire wood in the proper shape. "It is a skill one should always know."

"Are you always this helpful?" Rose asked seriously though she was tilting her head to watch him put the wood together. And hoping the the pieces of bread she'd thrown in there wouldn't screw too much with the fire.

Worf was actually in the process of moving the pieces of bread outside of the firelogs.

"No," Worf replied. "I'm not."

"Well, I appreciate it," she said, unable to keep from grinning at the bread situation. "I'm Rose."

"Worf," he replied gruffly as he finished setting up the firewood and pulling out a small laser to ignite the wood. "I assume you are new here?"

"Just since Saturday." She tilted her head around to see the laser. "Hey, now, how am I supposed to make a fire without that little gadget?"

"I believe the people in this century call them matches," Worf said seriously. "I believe they are available at most retail locations globally."

The fire quickly lit up and Worf stood up.

"The fire is lit. I believe it is now tradition for marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers," He said gruffly.

"I have peanut butter and bread," she offered. "Think you can break tradition with me and have that?"

Worf frowned. "Very well," he said with a frown. "However next time there should be marshmallows."

He then took a seat, looking rather stiff and formal. "I assume the other students have provided the standard warnings for this island.?"

"I had marshmallows last night," she said, and she couldn't help grinning at how last night turned out. "Think they brought me luck. I'll be sure to have more for you next time."

Rose offered him the loaf of bread and jar of peanut butter. "I've heard all about little gremlin guys and glitter and crazy timelines. Anything else I should know?"

"Yes. People seem to turn into animals at inopportune moments," Worf replied. "It is rather inconvenient."

She burst into laughter. "Have you been - um, inconvienced like that?"

Worf looked very uncomfortable as he glared at his peanut butter sandwich.

"Yes. I don't like to talk about it."

She couldn't help it.

"Were you adorable?"

Worf scowled.

"No," he said with a growl. "I was not."

Rose covered her mouth to keep from continuing to laugh. "So where do you come from, Worf?"

"A planet called Qo'noS," he replied, grateful for the change of topic. "However I was rescued and adopted by my human parents. And where are you from exactly?"

"Montana," Rose said dryly. "It's west of here. Lots of grass."

"Sounds... normal, Worf replied "How refreshing."

"For normal, you mean boring, right?" she asked.

"Normal is actually refreshing on this island," Worf said seriously.
