Second Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Due to Skrull invasions and cabin living, Tony was now three weeks behind on the best vampire detective show on syndicated TV, Darkest Night. And this Wednesday was the season finale.

So Tony picked up a box of goodies from J, GOB and settled in the second floor common room with pastries, popcorn and a bomb bottle of cola to catch up on the episodes he'd missed. Pastries for eating, popcorn for throwing at the screen. Given that the first episode he was watching featured a zombie invasion, he was going to need a lot of popcorn.

"Come on, are you serious? No zombie's that tough!"

Dinah turned even redder. "I don't even know him! Just a little bit. So far. That's all!"

"Uh-huuuuuh." Francine nudged her with her elbow. "No stealing my fun. I have to get even sometime!"

"Franciiiine," Dinah protested, then stuffed her mouth with popcorn, chewing and then swallowing before saying, "I had lots of fun and he's really cute and we'll see. And I didn't tease you that badly!"

Francine snorted and made air quotes. "Merlin thought the...video...might have bothered your boyfriend?" Which wasn't strictly teasing, since it was still in the 'oh so subtle matchmaking' stage, but whatever.

Dinah facepalmed, then giggled. "It worked! C'mon! If you'd had a boyfriend, we could've all pretended he didn't ask!"

"It did," Francine admitted. "I totally fell for it." Because that was difficult to accomplish. Really.

Dinah snickered back and said, "And it's all been really cool since then!" Leaving aside lions and pillows and porn. And books on flowers.

Speaking of, or rather, they hadn't been, but Francine's eyes still widened and she sort of dropped her face to her hand. "So, um."

"Um?" That wasn't a good um. "What, um?"

"So, um, Merlin kind of has the..." Francine uncovered her face so she could use her hands to make book-shutting motions.

Any unfortunate resemblance to applause was...unfortunate.

Dinah imitated Francine back to her, confused, so for a second, there was a bizarre dual pantomime of flowers-opening, eggs-cracking, Hawaiian gratitude, or yes, books being read. Or applause. Then Dinah got it.

Yeah. No words in that reaction.

"I...well, things..." Flail. Or fail. Or falail. "There was freakzing." Mutual freakzing, but don't let specificity get in your way there, Francine. "So I lost my mind and showed it to him."

"Um." Good word, um. "Um." Any second Dinah would find another one. Gulp. "I guess... that's one way to... um. Progress?"

Oh look. Flailing. With blushing. Blailing?

Francine's expression was... interesting. Multiple colors and a set of mouth that couldn't decide between embarrassed and frustrated. "You'd think. If either of us could get through more than half a page without slamming it shut."

"Ooohh," Dinah winced, embarrassed and sympathetic. There was enough embarrassed for everyone here. "Not even the easy pages? Without photos? Or diagrams?"

"Or cartoons?" Francine sighed. "I think the cartoons are the worst."

Against her will, Dinah giggled. "The expressions. What they're doing is bad enough, but the faces they make..."

Francine made one that was frankly comparable. "The one with the Dustbuster....."

Dinah's might have matched it. "They had to be making that one up because ow ow ow!"

"I think it was meant to be funny." It was funny, if you weren't looking at it over your boyfriend's shoulder.

"Sometimes I wonder." Dinah really hoped no one was going to try that for thrills. "Um. So. Merlin has it. For now. Um." She tried not to flail too much. "Good luck?"

Francine gave her a sickly smile. Then thought to add, "I didn't rat you out! He doesn't know you have one too."

HUGE EYES. Because that hadn't even occurred to her. Until now. "Thanks," Dinah squeaked. Gulp. "A lot!"

"Just don't use the Book on Flowers excuse if he ends up anywhere near it," Francine advised. "That one's kind of blown."

Dinah nodded jerkily, face stoplight-red, and said, "Not planning on it. At all. Nope. To anyone."
