Third floor common room, Saturday evening

The week before, Leto had been given a DVD by professor Mitchell, which was supposed to clarify certain questions Leto had had regarding British comedy. He hadn't had the opportunity to watch this until now. So this evening Leto was seated on the couch in front of the TV, watching Dark Serpent, the frown on his face increasing.

"Great Maker, are they insane?"

Arthur was on his way into the common room when he caught the Teevee on. He'd have walked off if it wasn't for Leto's particular cry of confusion, which meant he'd have to come over just to see what all the fuss was about. "It took you a while to realise it," he said, conversationally.

Leto shot him a surprised look. "Have you seen this, then?"

"I hardly need to see anything for the insanity of the island to become apparent," he said, eying the TV. "What's got you all worked up?"

"I was given a DVD in TeeVee class." Leto gestured at the TV. "This is supposed to be comedy. It isn't funny."

Arthur squinted at the show. The light still made his head hurt like anything. "Howso?" he asked. Maybe he should sit down and actually see whatever it was Leto was complaining about.

"Some man is insulting a servant and another one is clearly lacking in intelligence." No, it wasn't funny.

When she could, she made her way over to Arthur.

"I have a question to ask you.

"...I promise I'm not insulting you."

There was something of a pause.

"With an approach like that," Arthur said, finally, shooting her a look, "How can I say no?"

She breathed in deep and squared her shoulders.

"I'd like to know if you know someone who might instruct me in swordsmanship."

In between getting laughed at half the time and figuring it best to get as skilled as she could before something came up.

There were days Arthur wished he hadn't set the bar so low that he was honourbound to suggest this to... every single person who asked. "Someone else specifically?" he asked at last. "Because I do run Monday practices."

And he was kind of brilliant. ... never brilliant enough, but still.

"I've seen them," she said honestly, "but you seemed uninterested in dealing with me during them."

If he was going to offer, however. Short of Himura, he was probably the only other one she'd really want teaching her. So she would have to swallow a bit of her pride.

"If you'd changed your mind, I would be happy to have you as an instructor."

Television drew Tony like flame drew moths. "Oh, cool, Dark Serpent!" he exclaimed, dropping down on the couch.

Oh no. Leto turned his head to look at Tony. "You are familiar with this?"

"Sure, it's a classic," Tony said.

"A classic of what?" Leto asked. "Professor Mitchell suggested this might explain British comedy." And no, it did not.

"I don't know about explaining, but it's a great example of it," Tony said.

Despite today's detention and the madness yesterday, Fiona was actually in a relatively good mood. For her, that meant she wasn't feeling anything in particular and had on a smile, but that was still good.

Tony got a smile from behind the screen of her laptop.

"You're a fan of that?" she asked with a pointed finger at the television.

"Sure, it's a classic. You like British comedy?" Tony asked.

She shook her head.

"I've never seen. We weren't allowed a television. Or to watch one. Or to watch anything that would be one on another device used for viewing video content."

Tony got a wry grin.

"How's it work?"

"No television or movies at all? Wow, that sucks," Tony said. "Well, check this one out." He waved at the screen. "It's a great example of the genre."

Fiona was only coming to the common room in an attempt at being social, but finding Leto there made her trot over a little quicker. Laptop under one arm, she smiled and nodded to the seat next to him.

"Hey. Nice to see you're all right after yesterday. Not that-- I knew you would be."

Her company was more enjoyable than the TV show. Leto smiled at her and reached out to slip an arm around her shoulders. "You know how to look after yourself too."

He shot a wary look at the laptop, though.

She pulled just far enough away to put the laptop on the coffee table before returning to the spot, leaning happily against him.

"I do. But mutant alligators aren't the most common thing, even for me."

Leto still wasn't comfortable around Thinking Machines.

"That is a relief, though," he chuckled. "Are you familiar with this TV show?"

She shook her head, putting her head on his shoulder.

"I wasn't allowed television," she told him with a little grin, "so the only one I know is the one with the shirtless vampire."
