2nd Floor Common Room, Wednesday Afternoon

Karla was feeling Crafty today--though, admittedly, this was not exactly news. Karla was often in that kind of mood, regardless of whether the 'C' was capitalized or not. After the Magical Reserves meeting today, she'd decided it was a good day to stock up on some items for the Support Reserves. Magical potions unfortunately lost efficacy after a few hours, but a few simple Healing webs could be activated without her being around with only a few drops of blood, and could heal most minor to middling injuries. Calming potions would be useful in an emergency, as would sleeping draughts. Which reminded her that a few energy powders might be wise, too. Cooling or warming unguents, too, depending on when they'd be fighting. Plus the everyday, non-magical potions for things like bee-stings, sunburn (Karla, being very fair-skinned, made a lot of that), chafes, various aches and pains...

There were also some potions brewing that were for her own use, or to be shared with others, like her moon-time tea and the contraceptive brew, since it seemed like something to have handy for people.

And since she'd promised magical help to several people over the past few days, the common room seemed an easy enough place to find her. Plus, it had more counterspace, a sink, and a stove she was going to avoid until someone came in and taught her to use it properly. A few tongues of witchfire were enough to heat anything, anyway.

Anyone coming in would see Karla singing softly to herself, as she consulted a few large, leather bound books, fiddling around with various pots filled with herbal-scented liquids, or weaving webs in small, wooden looms.

Ender wasn't in any mood to overthink his fight with Ben right now, and that made sticking to his own room all the more sensible. However, when he'd passed through the hallways, he'd gotten a sense of a familiar person being there - and ducking his head into the common room, he found her pottering about.

"Busy?"

Karla looked up. "Hi Ender," she called, waving at him. The spoon she'd been using to stir kept going in lazy clockwise circles. "I am, but we can still talk. How are you enjoying rehearsals?"

"It's been interesting so far," he replied, moving into the room now that the invitation had been laid down. "You seemed to have your own take."

"True. However, I'd prefer it if next time, it didn't involve me falling on my ass. I think I broke my dignity." She glanced up and smiled at him, inviting him to come nearer and talk more if he liked. If he were interested in herbs, she might show him a few things as a thank you for introducing her to Wikipedia.

Jack gave a head-nod to the other guy in the room. Looked vaguely familiar.

Ender recognised him all right; just from a bout of Fandom weirdness that made him nod back and say nothing else.

"Do I know you from somewhere?" he asked, because the mun he wasn't sure if they'd met before.

Leda smiled at the boy she didn't think she'd met yet. "Hey there, I'm Leda. What do they call you?"

"Hey, Leda," Ender returned, not so much with a smile, but with a friendly nod of his head. "I'm Ender." She was new, he didn't have to ask. "How are you settling in?"

"I'm settling in pretty well I think. The alligators and the amorous weekend were a nice touch."

Jack wandered in for food and saw...an apothecary had taken over the whole place.

Oh. "Shoulda known it was you," he said with a smirk.

"Not much, Sis. How's it hanging?"

"Pretty good. This place is really cool." Even the alligators had been cool.

"Great," Karla sighed. "Trouble. If you try to tickle me, I'll pour boiling potions down your shirt."

Funny thing about Karla, sometimes, when she made threats, it was hard to tell is she was joking.

"Oh, now you're just asking for a challenge," he smirked, making tickelyfingers with his hands. From a good distance away.

"So what are you making here?" He peered at the mess. From a good distance away.

"Well, let's see. That's batch over there is sleepytime potions, those are contraceptive brews, over there are some sunburn unguents," she said, pointing to different parts of the counter. "That bit over there is hot enough to scald the skin off your back if necessary...and look! Over there are some regular burn uguents. How convenient!"

Jennifer entered the common room, and was a little surprised.

"Whoa, what's going on here?"

Jack grinned at the newcomer. "I dunno, but I wouldn't drink anything if I were you."

"My mom taught me better than to do that," Jennifer said. "I'm Jennifer."

"Hi Jennifer," Karla said, looking up from her work. "Just brewing some potions that I thought would be useful for support reserves and stuff. Whatcha up to?"

"Potions?" Jennifer said. "Like... magic?"

She was stuck on that, more than the question Karla asked.

Leda was indeed looking for Karla. She had something she wanted to ask her. A something that had her dressed in her best clothes. Which of course made her look like a punk street kid with money to spend.

"Oh, I came looking for Karla and I find a magical Martha Stewart instead."

Karla turned around and made a face. "I don't know what that means, but I'm betting I ought to hit you for it," she said, grinning. "Be nice, or I'll put you on the 'no brews' list."

Leda got another quick, somewhat shy smile before Karla turned back to stir another potion.

"I was teasing you." she admitted. "Martha Stewart's this lady who's famous for arts and crafts and cooking. So, what are you brewing?"
