Alex wasn't sure when Griff would be coming back from his trip so, since he had some sense of self preservation, he decided to make himself scarce. That included going one floor up and settling in a completely different common room then his own floor's. Griff could just make his discoveries on his own time. For now, Alex was sprawled on one of the couches, not quite hungover but not bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Of course, he wasn't ever really in that sort of mood. He was drinking (coffee) and eating (toast) and listening to some early morning news show that made no sense but it was noise and it kept him from falling asleep.

Despite it being morning, it was a vacation so Alex figured being up and lazy was allowed.

"And here I thought you and the family sat down for dinner together, prayed and then talked about your day," he said wryly. "Typical nuclear family and all that shit."

"We tried that. Dad ended up mangling the chicken, swearing at my brother, and I melted a board game." Oh, right, and she was in hospital with an overdose later that night. Worked out so well.

Okay, that was interesting enough to tear his eyes away from the television to focus on her. "You melted a board game? Was it Monopoly? I hope it wasn't a Monopoly."

Those little hotels could cause a lot of pain when used right. Not that he'd done that. Often.

"Not Monopoly," she confirmed. "Something weird Dad brought back from France. Too many tempting plastic pieces (http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2158/vlcsnap3171898.png)." And Effy did like to melt things, the little pyro.

"I'll confess, that's the first time someone's told me she's melted a board game during dinner," he said and laughed. "Look at that, you're a first for me."

Effy inclined her head in a sort of mock bow, and dug into the box for a handful of cereal. "Glad you appreciate my originality," she said, smirk tugging at her lips. "The thought makes my day."

"Oh, you know what, that reminds me," he said, digging into his pocket for his wallet. "I've got something for you. If you burn it, just make sure you don't set yourself on fire."

She raised a slight eyebrow. "I'm not that stupid. But it's sweet you're so concerned." She could do that irritating thing he did to her riiiight back.

He smirked and shook his head while digging through his wallet for what he was looking for. "I'm just a stickler for fire safety. Smokey the Bear says only you can prevent forest fires, after all."

"Don't worry, already got that lecture," she said, rolling her eyes and slouching back while she waited. "Several times." Worf had been a real fucking pain in the ass about it.

"Makes my job easier," he said, finally finding what he was looking for and yanking it out before he tossed it at her. "Look, your own stamp collection."

Because, yes, he'd covered both sides of an index card (that had been folded and stuffed in his wallet) with various stamps. There was some white space but he'd just scrawled doodles or his names in those.

Aww. Effy had to grin as she caught it, and turned it over in her hands for an examination.

"You actually made me a stamp collection." That was unexpected. "Must've gotten really bored," she guessed. Didn't even smugly suggest it was almost sentimental, which was really very restrained, for Effy.

"I had the stamps," he said, shrugging but looking pleased with himself. Of course, said stamps were supposed to be used for letters home but Alex didn't expect any letters to actually happen. "And some free time. So, you got a stamp collection."

"I'll give it pride of place on my wall, or something," she told him, smirking at the turned it over again absently. "Since you put all that effort into it, and all."

"Hey, it got a night of my time," he quipped, resisting the urge to just kick her with a nearby foot. See, look at that courtesy. "And I added personal touches. You like it, I know it. Stamps are cool."

"I like it." She'd give him that much. It was... nice.

And she probably would stick it on her wall now, just because.

"Never knew you were such an artist," she added, eying the doodles with some amusement.

"You don't think I actually showed up at school to learn, did you?" It was more like he showed up to get away from his house. "Should've seen my textbooks."

"Covered in hearts and little flowers, I bet," she said.

Keeping her snarky side squashed for long was effort.

"It's amazing how well you know me," he said sarcastically, shaking his head. "So what, you're here for the week, then? You should entertain me."

"I should, huh?" She arched a slight eyebrow as she looked over at him. "Why?"

"Because I asked," he said, now completely ignoring the television. "And there's all this free time. And I gave you a stamp collection. And it could be mutually beneficial."

And he didn't even mean that in a completely dirty fashion. He was growing as a person. Or, you know, it was early and his good mood from the previous night was still present.

"Well," she said, considering that a moment. "I was planning to go out and get completely fucked." It wasn't a proper night out for Effy if she wasn't very, very drunk. Or high. She knows how to party.

"You can join me if you'd like."

"Completely fucked up, huh?" It seemed a step up from just fucked up, after all. Made a difference. "When are you planning this little trip?"

Spoken like someone who didn't want to admit outright that his schedule was pretty empty for the next few days.

"Tomorrow." She hadn't actually had a plan until he asked, no. But she might as well sound like she did.

"Uh huh." Yeah, he had nothing planned. "You got a place in mind or are you gonna press your luck with a common room?"

Because then he'd have to laugh at her.
