Third Floor Common Room [Thursday Afternoon]

The last few days had been busy and Claire took advantage of being on break to sleep in.

But once she was awake, she was restless and she decided to go to the common room and bake some cookies.

Rather than bother with trashy daytime TV, she cranked up the radio and danced around the kitchenette.

"I didn't realize he had flight experience," Triela mused. Which wasn't surprising since she didn't really know him.

"Well, he took the workshop last term," Claire said. "But, uh... he kind of had experience before coming here too."

She wasn't sure how much of the clone thing she should share.

Triela nodded. "I suppose that shouldn't be too surprising. So many people show up here with weird talents, after all."

Claire managed to look sheepish for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, this place does seem to attract unusual people."

"Hey, what's usual anyway?" Triela countered with an amused snort as she set the kettle on to boil.

"That's fair," Claire agreed with a short laugh. "So what have you been up to lately?"

"Teaching Karla how to shoot. Wandering the island looking for places to stash emergency supplies." She shrugged. "Not much, I guess."

"What kind of emergency supplies?" Claire asked. "Like bungee cords on the roof?"

That was one she remembered talking about, at least.

"Yeah. And extra weapons and ammo. And maybe some medical stuff."

Claire nodded. "That makes sense."

"That's what I was thinking, too," she grinned.

"Did you sign up for that workshop on weapons that was being offered next session?" Claire asked.

"I don't pick any of my classes," Triela admitted. "And Hilshire hasn't given me a list of my next set."

"Oh, wow," Claire said. "I'm surprised my dad is letting me pick my own, to be honest."

"Usually it's okay," Triela shrugged. "But sometimes I end up in really weird stuff. Like etiquette."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure my dad would have chosen that over Spy Games."

"Sounds like your dad and Hilshire might get along, though I do get some interesting classes along the way."

"My dad's a little overprotective," she admitted. "Who is Hilshire?"

"My handler back at the Agency." The words were simple, but the situation was... complicated. Her handler, her partner, maybe her brother in some ways (the agency did call them 'fratello' after all).

Claire nodded. "Does he just work with you? Or does he have a group of girls he helps?"

"Each fratello consists of one handler and one girl." Triela grinned slightly. "Some of the girls are a bit difficult to work with, I don't think someone could work with two of them."

She wasn't one of those hard to work with girls.

Really.

Hilshire had been in a constant state of dazed stress before he took the job.

Somehow Claire wouldn't believe that. She smirked a little. "Is it weird for you to be separated right now?"

A little of Triela's grin fell away. "Yeah," she said quietly. "They call me back for missions, and that helps, but..."

She rubbed at her temples. "Protecting Hilshire is the most important part of who I am." The Conditioning had seen to that. "And not being close enough to do that is... stressful."

"Oh. I'm sorry for bringing it up then," Claire said, frowning at Triela's obvious discomfort.

"Don't worry about it," Triela shook her head quickly. "It's not like I'm not used to it by now."
