Third Floor Common Room - Saturday Morning

Claire was still in an excellent mood after her conversation with Jon last night. She decided to pass on the trip into the city and instead headed for the common room to make breakfast in an effort to meet some new people.

Anyone making their way past the room would be welcome to enjoy some pancakes with blueberry topping, strawberry topping and/or whipped cream. Because, yes, Claire was kind of a dork and went the red, white and blue route.

There was an appropriate holiday movie on the television.

"Yeah, pancakes are easy," Claire said. "You know, you could have both," she added, noticing Elle's apparent dilemma.

"Even better," Elle said with a cheerful smile as she plopped both on top of her pancakes.

"So where are you from, Elle?" Claire asked.

"Ohio," Elle said, suddenly very much focused on drowning her pancakes in syrup. "Well, originally. We moved a couple times."

Claire nodded. "I'm from Texas, but my family moved to California before I came here."

"It sucked," was Elle's succinct opinion.

"I agree with you there," Claire said. "Of course, then my dad decided to send me here."

"Same here, pretty much," Elle said. "Dads are stupid, I think."

"Definitely," Claire agreed. "For some reason, they seem incapable of understanding that we aren't still five."

"Exactly!" Elle said. "And that we don't need to get sent to some random school to learn when we can do that just fine at home."

"What were you sent here to learn?" she asked.

"I don't know," Elle admitted. "My dad said I was coming here because I could get a better education than back home. But I had pretty good tutors back home... when I wanted to listen to them."

"Tutors?" Claire repeated. "Were you homeschooled?"

"Yeah," Elle said with a nod. "It was kind of lame. Most of the time, anyway."

Claire nodded. "Yeah, I would hate that, I think. But, hey, you're here now."

"I am," Elle said with a nod. "And hey, at least my classes sound like they might be interesting. I mean, okay, so my dad picked them out. But they still might be fun anyway."

She hoped.

"What did you sign up for?" Claire asked.

"I've got Ethics & Etiquette, Photography, Life's Little Quirks, and Practical Weaponry," Elle said. "You?"

"Um... I've got Healthy Living, Mythbusting, Flight & Flying and Strategy Games," Claire said.

"Oh, we don't have anything together," Elle said, looking just the slightest hint of disappointed. "Would've been nice."

Claire nodded. "Well, I'm in 312, so you can stop by anytime."

"You might have a hard time getting rid of me," Elle joked.

"New friends are never a bad thing."

Ahahaha, silly Claire.

"No, they're not," Elle agreed with an emphatic nod.

There weren't that many ways this friendship could go horribly, horribly wrong or anything.

"What room are you in?" Claire asked.
