Third Floor Common Room - Saturday Morning

Claire was still in an excellent mood after her conversation with Jon last night. She decided to pass on the trip into the city and instead headed for the common room to make breakfast in an effort to meet some new people.

Anyone making their way past the room would be welcome to enjoy some pancakes with blueberry topping, strawberry topping and/or whipped cream. Because, yes, Claire was kind of a dork and went the red, white and blue route.

There was an appropriate holiday movie on the television.

"I'll have to look into those", Kate said. "A job would probably be a really good idea. Because money is nice. ...But I don't think I'll be getting a job yet. At least not in any sort of restaurant." The last part made her let out a little laugh. It wasn't necessarily a happy laugh.

"We have days open at the comic shop, if you're interested," Claire told her. "Did you work at a restaurant back in Kansas?"

"Yeah, at a Barnabeez. I'm not sure whether they have it in Texas, but it's this awful little chain of restaurants, kinda like a slightly more upper scale McDonald's, only with seafood." She made a face. "Let's just say working there wasn't the best experience I've ever had."

Claire made a face. "It sounds kind of gross."

"It totally was", Kate laughed. "Also, my workmates were pretty weird. Like, my manager was just the biggest creep I've ever met."

Of course she wasn't going to talk about how she had sex with him and how he went all stalkery on her after she broke their thing off. Because that just wasn't breakfast table conversation material.

"Well, I think it's safe to say you wouldn't have creepy managers to deal with around here," Claire said.

Then again, that would probably depend on someone's definition of creepy.

"That makes the idea of a job a lot more alluring", Kate nodded. "I'll have to think about it once I get more settled in. There's no point in overwhelming myself with everything right away."

"Definitely not," Claire agreed. "At least wait until the first week of classes is over."

"At least", Kate nodded. "I think by then I will at least really understood that I'm not just visiting."

She laughed a little. "I haven't exactly been away from home a whole lot."

"That was definitely the hardest thing to get used to," Claire admitted. "I hadn't really spend much time away from my family."

"I just know that when that realization hits me, I'm gonna be really, really homesick. I'm not looking forward to that." She sighed.

"But I think it's going to be even worse for my Mom", she smiled slightly, "I'm already preparing for her to start calling me twice a day."

"I was worried about that," Claire said. "Luckily my mom got busy training new dogs. She's real into the dog show thing. Does your mom have any hobbies?"

"She paints", Kate answered, "although that's actually more like her job. She does these big murals, usually on rich women's bed room walls."
