The Valley Campfire: Monday Afternoon

Anyone coming across the campfire today would find Layla sprawled out on a blanket as she traced a convuluted route on a map of the Northeastern part of the United States. She was lying on her stomach with her feet up in the air as she munched on a snack of raisins and goldfish crackers

And while a fire wasn't lit in the firepit, there was a cooler of drinks and some goodies from J'GOB sitting on top of them for visitors to enjoy.

"How personal?" Hannibal asked. "I mean, you don't have to tell me what it was but was it something super secret?"

"Not really secret as such, no," she shook her head. Because she had secrets, and thankfully she hadn't sung any of them. "More like the stuff you go all emo over. That kind of personal."

"Ah," he said, giving a nod of understanding. "If it helps, I spewed my feelings all over Angela one day a few months ago because no one could lie. We weren't dating yet so it was kind of...awkward."

"But I'm guessing that was for the better? At least your dating now, so you can't have messed things up too bad between you two."

"And no lying? No calling the parents on a day like that..." she sighed.

"It took some time," he said but nodded. "We were both kind of...avoiding things like that. Natural fear of commitment or something. We got better."

Thankfully.

"And yeah, no lying. Just one of the many weird days we have here. You got a crash course times two."

"I'm kinda glad I already had a little background with weird stuff when I came. Nothing nearly on this scale of course... But more than most people. I never thought that would ever be helpful, but apparently it is." She smiled a little.

"And see, you've got me beat because I've never turned into an animal," he said, grateful for that. "I have turned into a tiny child and a girl but never an animal."

"A girl?" sje asked with an amused grin. "How was that for you?"

"Not too bad," Hannibal said, grinning. "I was hot, it was fun and I wasn't the only one that changed."

"I can definitely see the appeal in that," Kate grinned back. "And I can also understand why it would help to not be the only one affected."

"Yeah, Angela was a guy so it was like we switched for the weekend," he told her, laughing in remembrance. "I borrowed her clothes, she borrowed mine and it turned out to not be that weird."

"Handy," she smiled. "If that happened to me, I'd probably ask Bobby for clothes... And maybe cry for having to wear stuff from outside my personal style."

"Bobby wears dorky clothes?" Hannibal asked, nodding in apology to the penguin.

"Not really," Kate replied, giving the penguin a reassuring smile. "Just... not really my style."

She was wearing her basic uniform of skull-print t-shirt, frilly black miniskirt, and black combat boots.

"Well, maybe seeing Bobby in your clothes if he changed too would make it somewhat amusing," he suggested.

"It would," she agreed. "He would probably freak out about his legs showing. The flailing would be epic." There was a little bit of laughter over that particular mental image.

"Aww, he's one of the flaily guys?" he asked, amused. "I know a few of them. They're adorable."

"He definitely is, you should have seen him when I turned into a cat!" Kate laughed. "But you're right, it's adorable."

Was the penguin blushing?

"Why did you turning into a cat make him flaily?" Hannibal didn't have experience with the whole turning back naked portion of the situation.

When she turned back, Bobby was too freaked out to even flail.

"Because no one had told either of us that that was something that could just randomly happen. We'd heard about the zombies and the gremlins and other stuff like that but turning into animals? No one had mentioned it." She could laugh at it now. At the time, not so much.

"Aww, so he was just surprised," Hannibal said, having expected something worse. "At least you both are used to it now. Seasoned pros!"

"Yeah, well... At least I didn't flail when he turned," Kate said. "Of course, instead of flailing, I burst out laughing hysterically. And it lasted for a while. But that was mainly because he'd just jinxed us, and because he turned into a penguin."

She still wasn't over the choice of animal.

"Well, you can tease him about it forever now, right?" he suggested.

"Probably yeah," Kate smirked. "Right now I'm focusing on hoping for a more... graceful turning back than what I had, though."

"What happened to you?" he asked curiously.
