With the move back to the dorms over, Alex had immediately headed out of his room (Griff needed to find his jacket soon or later) and down to the deck. It was true, he kind of really liked this place even if it was hot today. That just meant a t-shirt and shorts had to be worn instead of something heavier.

He took a seat, feet up on another seat and leaned back to catch some sun. Last day of the weekend was meant to be spent in the laziest way possible, right? Well, lazy if you couldn't be doing all those other fun active things. Maybe he'd do something like that later.

"You should definitely get a flag then," Valentine nodded. "Staking your claim with a flag has a very nice flair to it. It doesn't have to be an elaborate flag; in fact, that would sort of defeat the point of it being yours. You strike me as a minimalist flag kind of guy, Alex."

"Maybe I'll just hire you to make my flag," he decided. "You seem to have the knowledge needed and I'd give you a shiny nickel."

"Oh, give me a nickel?" Valentine asked. "Like you gave me that nice friendship bracelet, too?"

"I'd give you the nickel if you did quality work," he decided. "Who knows, you might suck royally and then I'd get to fire you. As for the bracelet, I decided that would just be another materialistic possession that you'd spend way too much time thinking about."

"So your laziness is sparing me emotional and mental trauma," Valentine noted. "Very symbiotic, Alex. I didn't think you had it in you."

"I'm sure you don't think I have a lot of things in me," he said, shrugging. "And it's not laziness. I'm channeling my energy into things that I enjoy. Laziness would mean I'd still be inside."

"And you've got two hands with ten fingers so you can make one yourself if you want one so bad," he retorted.

Valentine quirked an eyebrow at Alex for a moment.

"Only if I can still psychotically pretend that you made it for me. Otherwise, it just defeats the whole purpose."

"Aww, Valentine, I didn't know you wanted something from me that badly," he said and grinned. "Life that empty?"

"Like a great, big, vacant soul-sucking black hole empty," Valentine said, with a congenial shrug.

"And here I thought you were adaptive enough to find a hobby," he said, shaking his head. "Must've been wrong about you. You're the uninteresting one."

Valentine lifted up the box of books she was carrying. "I have a hobby," she said. "And I never claimed to be interesting."

"Reading?" he asked with some disdain. "And just because you didn't claim to be interesting doesn't mean I can't label you as uninteresting. It's an observation."

"Yes, reading," Valentine couldn't help grin at the disdain, and seemed to hug the box in tighter. "Nice, solid, boring past time."

"Nerd," he said breezily. "You can't learn everything from books and people who think they can are gonna get their asses handed to them."

"I know," Valentine said, faint grin slipping out. "I just do it for funsies."

"There are better hobbies," he informed her in case she didn't know. "You wouldn't be so boring with a new hobby."

Valentine shrugged. "I figured I'd better ask than just assume that 'hanging out on the deck all the time' is a better hobby than reading. I could go crazy, though, and hang out on the deck reading, but that seems a little wild."

"But see, you assume this is what I do all the time," he said and shook his head. "No one's ever taught you that assumptions are usually wrong?"
