Third Floor Common Room, Late Sunday Morning

Kate had partaken in free common room breakfast on her first morning at Fandom High, so today she thought she’d return the favor.

Unfortunately pancakes were beyond her abilities and she didn’t want to call her brother for help, so she made a safe fruit salad instead. There was a big bowl of it on the kitchen counter, and it was meant for anyone who happened to make their way into the common room, new and old students alike.

She also had all her leftover chocolate coins in a smaller bowl on the table.

"At least I haven't had anyone pointing at me and screaming 'you evil plotter' yet," Kate grinned.

That was definitely Jaime's cue.

He jumped up from his chair and pointed at her. "You evil plotter, you!"

To Kate's credit, she actually managed to look almost convincingly outraged, while suppressing laughter.

"Why this sudden betrayal?"

"It is my civic duty to make sure that you don't continue perpetrating your evil!" he declared.

"Look, goody-two-shoes, I'm sure we can make a deal. Evil would be more profitable for you, too."

"Oh? You know I'm, like, immune to bribery and stuff, right? It's part of the hero gig."

"Oh, it's too late for you to try to resist now..."

Jaime struck a heroic pose. "I will foil your evil schemes if it's the last thing I do."

"I'd like to see you try," Kate smirked. "That awesomey taste in the fruit salad? That was actually evilfruit."

"That's... bad." Yeah. He had nothing.

"You're so lucky I'm not actually evil," Kate chuckled.

"I'd be powerless and stuff, huh?" Since, you know, the Scarab was sort of a secret.

"More than likely, yes. I'd probably keep you around as a pet or something, though."

"Oh, kinky," Jaime laughed.

"Your words, not mine." A beat. "Or at least you were the only one to say it out loud."

"It was your idea," Jaime countered in amusement.

Kate stuck out her tongue at him, which was a rather obvious distraction from the fact that she had nothing to say to that.

Jaime just chuckled and ate some more fruit salad.

"You should maybe brace yourself, 'cause I'm about to take this breakfast show in a sudden sensible direction," Kate said, poking at what was left on her plate with her spoon.

"Considering how far we've gone... I don't see how that's even possible." But suddenly he was paying more attention.

"Will you get whiplash if I ask you where you're from?" Kate smirked. "We kinda failed at covering the basics yesterday."

Jaime laughed. "I thought you were about to reveal that you really were a super villain or something. That's not so bad." He grinned. "I'm from El Paso."

"I usually tell people that over dinner, not over breakfast," Kate remarked. "El Paso, huh? I'm from Overland Park myself."

"And I don't know where that is," Jaime admitted sheepishly.

"Kansas," Kate grinned. "And I bet you know where that is, which put you ahead of a lot of people at this school."
