Fifth Floor Common Room [evening]

Sookie was sort of surprised by the very sticky rain, and that in and of itself was a mark of how long she'd been there.

And after a day spent indoors reading, she decided to do something smart about the rain. And so she wandered out to her common room, found it empty, and took to carefully positioning some buckets to hang out the windows.

Sookie, meanwhile, set to work mixing up some pancake batter. And, of course, frying up some bacon and eggs. It wasn't really breakfast-for-supper unless you had all the components.

[oooooopen!]

"Turtle!" Bobby waved. "I think Sookie's making enough to feed an army. Or at least a common-room-ful."

"Bobby!" Grinning, Turtle waved back, a lazy no-radio crash sort of wave that still managed a little bit of excitement. "And I hope so. That bacon smells awesome and I'm hungry. Which is surprising after all the syrup I've handwavily been eating all day."

Which was just a tooth-ache waiting to happen, but some things, you just never learned.

"I know right?" And the fact that those words came out with barely a pause between them was probably a clue as to how much syrup he'd had. "But, you know, it's basically sugar and I guess sugar's not all that filling, really, which is why I'm glad Sookie decided to make enough to share."

"Not filling, but delicious, so you can just eat a ton of it! It's practically the perfect food, sugar."

Then there was a thoughtful pause.

"Although bacon is pretty awesome, too."

"Exactly. Saying no to bacon is just... practically impossible, as far as I'm concerned." So was saying no to any other sort of food, actually.

"Wholeheartedly agreed!" Turtle said, brandishing her own bacon and taking a bite. "So glad Dad never really was one for that kosher thing. He likes bacon even more than even I do."

"Oh! You're Jewish?" Bobby asked curiously.

"Half," Turtle said with a slightly proud smile. "My dad's Jewish, but my mom's Episcopalian, or something like that. We're not very religious, but there's a lot to be said about still honoring your heritage and stuff."

"Oh! Me too. Only, the other way around. My mom's Jewish and my dad's Irish Catholic. I was the only kid who got St. Patrick's Day off from Hebrew School," he told her. A beat. "That was a joke, the St Pat's thing," he felt compelled to add.

"Awwwww," Turtle said with a grin, "because that would have been impressive. I didn't know that, though! That's really cool! Everything's so diverse around here that it's just...really neat to kind of actually share a heritage like that with someone else."

And...it might have helped a lot that Bobby was cute and stuff.

"My dad probably would've let me off if I'd asked," Bobby mused. "I just never actually thought of it until now. And yeah, between all the aliens and demons and other-world stuff, it's nice to find some down-to-Earth- um, literally I guess, common ground."

Turtle grinned at that. "Definitely. I mean, it's especially nice, stuff like that. Sort of reminds you that there's still some normal stuff in the world, too."
