Fifth Floor Common Room [evening]

Sookie was sort of surprised by the very sticky rain, and that in and of itself was a mark of how long she'd been there.

And after a day spent indoors reading, she decided to do something smart about the rain. And so she wandered out to her common room, found it empty, and took to carefully positioning some buckets to hang out the windows.

Sookie, meanwhile, set to work mixing up some pancake batter. And, of course, frying up some bacon and eggs. It wasn't really breakfast-for-supper unless you had all the components.

Rose snickered. "I don't even have a brother, and the thought of knowing that about mine would freak me out."

"I know," Sookie said, making a face. "I don't want to know. He's just...popular. Word gets around. Plus I've got some problems that prevent any chance I might want to keep from knowing things about my immediate family's activities."

"Really thin walls?" Rose asked. "Shouldn't be so much of a problem here, you'd think or is he back home still?"

"He's here. A version of him," Sookie told her, smiling a bit. "Which is still weird. And the thin walls aren't the problem, but it is less of a problem here, anyway -- I'm telepathic. Jason overshares even when he doesn't mean to."

"Okay, fair enough, that would be really crappy," she said, trying to multiply what she had with Lissa by freaking everyone.

"But it's under control. I haven't peeked in your head!" Sookie reassured her quickly. "And I have no plan to. But yeah, my brother and the ladies. Know waaaaaay more than I want to."

"Not like there's a lot in there," Rose said lightly, wondering what it would be like to see into everyone's mind. Emotions were what drew her into Lissa's, and Rose tried to push hers down.

She was still curious though. "What's it like? When you look in someone's head? Like seeing through their eyes?"

"Sometimes," she offered thoughtfully. "More often'n not, it's more like just memories, or things they wish would happen, or I hear what they're thinking. Which isn't exactly like hearing, but I can't explain it better than that. It's easier if I'm touching them, or if I'm tired. Otherwise I keep my shields up."

Yeah, suddenly Rose got a lot more clear on why Lissa hated Rose looking through her eyes and feeling everything she did.

"You can do that? Prevent yourself from looking into their heads?" she asked.

"I have to concentrate," she said, nodding. "Unless it's another telepath with shields, too, or one of the Jedi, or someone supernatural. Most folks with powers come in kinda fuzzy, so I don't have to try so hard."

"Can a lot of people do it where you're from?" she asked. "Or is it totally weird talking about this stuff."

"Just me," she said, smiling a little. "People think I'm crazy back home. It's so weird having others like me here."
