The Roof: Saturday Evening

Happy-shiny-upbeat music was rolling off the roof this morning and down through the dorms. Layla had taken the time to string up some old Christmas lights that she had handwavily found at Things Reborn.

Food and drink Moddable of course was spread out on a table.

And of course the entire roof was already decorated in flowers, glitter and streamers.

Layla was already out in the middle of the roof bouncing around to the music and having a grand old time of it.

Clearly the island felt there was need for a party. Layla was just rolling around with it.

"It would be much better in the lobby or a common room," Zayne said. "The, uh, party, not a fire. The sprinkler system would probably turn on and ruin things."

"Sure but if we're in the lobby, there's no need to keep warm," she pointed out. "And that would be sad."

"Even more reason why it would be a horrible night for a party," Zayne countered. "So I guess the answer is yes."

"Nah, any party is better than no party," Rose disputed. "So the answer is still no."

"I'm sure I could think of some time that wasn't true," Zayne said. "But then I wouldn't be partying, would I?"

"Which would be a terrible waste of your time," Rose agreed.

"And I wouldn't want to do that," Zayne said. "Especially since you'd tease me about it later."

"Me?" she looked innocent. "I'd never."

"You probably wouldn't even wait until 'later,'" Zayne pointed out.

Now Rose laughed. "Yep, that's exactly what I was arguing with. Why wait til later when the opportunity is there right now?"

"I guess I can't really argue with that kind of logic," Zayne admitted.

"Better for you not to try then," Rose teased. "How've you been?"

"I've been good," Zayne said. "It feels nice to be back to real classes where I have to take notes."

"You're such a geek," Rose laughed. "Do you color code your notes too? Recopy them so they're more organised."

Rose was too familiar with Lissa's dorky tendencies.

"No, my my datapad keeps everything sorted pretty neatly already," Zayne said. "But I probably wouldn't even if I used notebooks."

"It's a great relief," she teased.

"Hey, you're in the logic class with me. You can't tease me too much about that one," Zayne said.

Rose rolled her eyes. "That's so not my fault! I don't get to pick my stupid classes."

"All I'm saying is that if a test comes up and you're not ready because you have bad notes, I'm not sharing my organized notes with you," Zayne said.

But he totally would. He was too nice.

"So you'll leave me to fail on my own?" Rose asked. "I'm sad now."

"That's the price you pay for being so quick to tease," Zayne said. "But that won't be for a while. I might change my mind later. And until then, there's still a party."

"So you'll come dance with me?" She asked immediately."

"If that's your way of trying to get back on my good side... it might actually work. Let's dance," Zayne said.

"Yep!" Rose flashed him a grin as she moved onto the dance floor. "This is the first step in my dastardly 'get on Zayne's good side' master plan."

No, Rose couldn't believe she'd just said 'dastardly' either.

"Then what's step two?" Zayne asked, starting to dance (not as horrible as one might fear) when they reached the dance floor.
