The Roof: Saturday Evening

Happy-shiny-upbeat music was rolling off the roof this morning and down through the dorms. Layla had taken the time to string up some old Christmas lights that she had handwavily found at Things Reborn.

Food and drink Moddable of course was spread out on a table.

And of course the entire roof was already decorated in flowers, glitter and streamers.

Layla was already out in the middle of the roof bouncing around to the music and having a grand old time of it.

Clearly the island felt there was need for a party. Layla was just rolling around with it.

"The roof's not much for emo tonight, huh?" Rose asked as she pushed the door to the roof open.

"Anti-emo zone!" Layla called out as she bounced around. "How can it be with all these decorations?"

She couldn't help laughing at the whole thing. "Watch out for all the smokers," she teased. "They might try to rebel."

Layla just gave her a wicked grin. "Oh, they can smoke all they want. Plus they get free food. And if that doesn't work there's always sexual favors," she joked.

Rose snickered. "Just watch out for that new guy. We only talked for about five minutes before he was asking for those favors," she joked back. "But between the free food and the sex, I think you'll be good."

Zayne made his way up to the roof for some peaceful nighttime meditation. What he found instead was music. He wasn't going to complain, though.

"Good night for a party," he said as he took a look at the decorations.

"Is there a bad night for a party?" Rose asked, giving Zayne a smile.

Emma had to get out of her room; every time she turned around, there were more flowers appearing and more glitter falling from nowhere, and she was never going to be able to get all of it out of her hair.

What she found on the roof, however, made her groan. "Miller, I don't know if I can keep you as my minion. You have a horrible taste in music."

"Oh I think I can handle him," Layla said with an eyeroll. "I'll just offer him some leftover syrup from yesterday."

"Damn Straight!" Layla said happily. "C'mon! Get your dance on!"

"Yes, But I have your favorite foods and non-alcoholic beverages available for your consumption, Ms. Frost," Layla said with a smirk. "And later this evening I have a playlist arranged of your more favorite tunes."

"A night with a blizzard, maybe?" Zayne suggested. "That would be bad for a roof party, at least."

"But will you provide the pancakes too?"

"No, then we'd all need to be sure to keep extra warm," she said. "And dancing would be a way to do it. Plus a fire....so okay, maybe not on the roof."

"I have Eggos and a toaster," Layla smirked. "Anything more than that he'll have to get on his own."

"I don't know if I have much dance to... get on..." Zayne said, quickly getting lost by the necessary grammar. "So don't laugh at me too much."

Zayne started dancing and it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

"It would be much better in the lobby or a common room," Zayne said. "The, uh, party, not a fire. The sprinkler system would probably turn on and ruin things."

"You're fine," Layla said with a reassuring grin. "You actually look coordinated."

"You enjoy creeping people out with that, don't you?" Emma sighed, smirking slightly. "That's why we get along so well."

"You're - really prepared," Rose commented.

"Thank you," Zayne said. "I wouldn't count on it lasting very long. It could become flaily at any time."

"Sure but if we're in the lobby, there's no need to keep warm," she pointed out. "And that would be sad."

Rose gave the other girl an amused smile. "See, I'd think you could train a good taste of music into someone."

"I'll admit it," Layla grinned. "There's something amusing when people squirm a little."

Lord knows she did that enough with Jamie whenever she brought up their eventual marriage.

"But also I have a vested interest in you, Frost," she admitted. "So it pays to keep you happy."

"Have we met? I'm Layla Miller. I know stuff."
