The Roof: Saturday Evening

Happy-shiny-upbeat music was rolling off the roof this morning and down through the dorms. Layla had taken the time to string up some old Christmas lights that she had handwavily found at Things Reborn.

Food and drink Moddable of course was spread out on a table.

And of course the entire roof was already decorated in flowers, glitter and streamers.

Layla was already out in the middle of the roof bouncing around to the music and having a grand old time of it.

Clearly the island felt there was need for a party. Layla was just rolling around with it.

"The roof's not much for emo tonight, huh?" Rose asked as she pushed the door to the roof open.

"Anti-emo zone!" Layla called out as she bounced around. "How can it be with all these decorations?"

She couldn't help laughing at the whole thing. "Watch out for all the smokers," she teased. "They might try to rebel."

Zayne made his way up to the roof for some peaceful nighttime meditation. What he found instead was music. He wasn't going to complain, though.

"Good night for a party," he said as he took a look at the decorations.

"Is there a bad night for a party?" Rose asked, giving Zayne a smile.

"A night with a blizzard, maybe?" Zayne suggested. "That would be bad for a roof party, at least."

"Damn Straight!" Layla said happily. "C'mon! Get your dance on!"

"I don't know if I have much dance to... get on..." Zayne said, quickly getting lost by the necessary grammar. "So don't laugh at me too much."

Zayne started dancing and it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

Emma had to get out of her room; every time she turned around, there were more flowers appearing and more glitter falling from nowhere, and she was never going to be able to get all of it out of her hair.

What she found on the roof, however, made her groan. "Miller, I don't know if I can keep you as my minion. You have a horrible taste in music."

"Yes, But I have your favorite foods and non-alcoholic beverages available for your consumption, Ms. Frost," Layla said with a smirk. "And later this evening I have a playlist arranged of your more favorite tunes."

"You enjoy creeping people out with that, don't you?" Emma sighed, smirking slightly. "That's why we get along so well."

Rose gave the other girl an amused smile. "See, I'd think you could train a good taste of music into someone."

"Could I? Of course. But she came housebroken, for the most part, and it amuses me to see what she's going to come up with next," Emma replied, bemused. "It's like Christmas every day."

"Evening," Zayne said cheerfully. He was a pretty happy guy most of the time. The music seemed to make that worse. "What's wrong with the music?"

"It bounces," Emma elucidated, raising an eyebrow at him. "Which would be fine, I suppose, if I ingested as much sugar as Layla does on a regular basis."

Priestly had noted the general party theme of the day, and eventually meandered his way up to the roof.

"Dude. This is pretty sweet."

"Priestly!" Layla shouted in greeting. "Make me a sandwich!"

"Layla!" Priestly shouted back. "Try asking nicely!"

"Evening, Priestly," Zayne said cheerfully. "Sounds like you're ready to enjoy the party."

Priestly nodded. "Am I ever. How's it going, man?"

"No, no, no," Rose laughed. "The syrup yesterday was sweet. This is awesome."

Priestly stuck his tongue out at her. "Same thing!"

The day had turned out idle and unproductive, which suited Valentine fine, and she was thinking she'd wind up continuing the trend, but, as she got nearer the roof, she began to realize that this was not one of the many places to be idle and unproductive tonight. But that was okay, too.

"Nice use of resources," she complimented.

"Well when the island provides all the decorations, what else should one do?" Layla said with chuckle.

"Vaaaaaaaaaalentine," Emma had been into the sugar by the time the other girl showed up, and she bounced over to link arms with her. "Why aren't we in any classes together this semester, darling? It's positively heretical, and they put me in ethics of all things."
