Karla looked around and nodded in satisfaction. There was a big glittery banner that said "CONGRATULATIONS TAHIRI!" hung over one wall. She wasn't going to admit it, but playing the glue and glitter and paint had been a lot of fun. Though, with the residual glitter in her hair (and the occasional glittery hand print on the banner), someone might be able to tell.

There was one table completely devoted to ice cream (and wrapped in cold spells). The centerpiece was, of course, a giant ice cream cake with a frosted lightsaber on it. Karla couldn't make any guesses about how accurate it was, but there was a greyish hilt and a ~~I was tempted to say red~~ blue beam coming from the front. It was enough to get the point across, dammit. She'd had to explain to the Chilly Boulder guy what she meant by lightsaber anyway. Though he immediately knew who Ben and Tahiri were. The table wasn't entirely covered by ice cream, as Dinah had mentioned bringing some, too.

It's possible that there may be an ice cream shortage at Chilly Boulder tonight. Sorry.

In the kitchen, there was even more food; this time covered in warming spells. Mostly there were pizzas with a variety of toppings, but she'd also gotten some sides from most of the other restaurants in town. Someone wanted to have pizza with a side of lobster bisque and quesadillas? Totally not a problem. There were also a variety of drinks and, stashed away in the fridge, a few steaks and a chicken--raw, of course--for Blind Seer.

As far as she could tell, everything was done. And if not...well, they could cope. Now the only thing to do was wait for the guests to arrive.

...and try not to cut into the cake before they arrived. It did look good.

Hurley blushed a little. "Thanks," he said. "Which really means we should take you up on that horse riding thing."

"You should!" Karla said with an inviting smile. "We could make it a picnic, out in the Preserve. Ride out, eat lunch, come back. That sounds like a really great day, actually."

Add food to anything and Karla would be at least intrigued by the notion.

"Awesome," Hurley said. "That's... really awesome. You should be, like, a professional date planner."

Karla laughed. "I don't think I could actually make a career out of it, but if you're ever at a loss for something to do, ring me and I can probably come up with something."

"I'm totally holding you to that," Hurley said. "Cause, like, you did an awesome job with this. You should be proud."

"Thank you," she said, grinning. "I just thought that...well, this is a big deal for Tahiri. So we should make it a big deal, since she wasn't going to. You know? Plus, I get a lot of practice with the parties I throw for the females of the dorms."

"You do this a lot?" Hurley said.

How to answer without giving too much away. "I like parties," Karla said easily. "And, back home, my best friend Jaenelle has all these females around. We're a coven, actually. So it's nice to get a similar feeling with the females here. So, yeah, I try to have a females-only party about once a month or so. Just for fun."

No other reason. Not at all. Nope.

"Coven, like... that thing with witches and stuff?" Hurley said.

Karla gave Hurley a big smile, feeling somewhat gratified, and nodded. "Of course! We are witches, after all."

"Cool," Hurley said. "I totally prefer cute blond witches over the warty kid-eating ones that I read about as a kid."

Okay, she could so tease him for that. "Oh, so you think I'm cute?" Karla asked, batting her eyes at him. "I'm glad that makes up for my child-eating ways."

Hurley laughed. And then he paused.

"Wait, that was a joke, right?"

"Which part?" Karla asked, all innocence.

"The, uhhh, eating babies part," Hurley said.

"...I'm totally not saying you seem the type. Just I figure it's best to ask."

Karla grinned. "So that means you do think I'm cute?" Then she laughed. "Don't worry, Hurley. Babies are safe from me. I don't really like them enough to go to the bother of eating them."

"As a button," Hurley said with a nod. "Errr, I think. They say that, right? Cause like, I've never really found buttons all that cute, usually."

Welcome to the accidental segue.

Karla just wrinkled her nose. "That is an odd saying. And yet, oddly cute. I think I can handle being a button's worth of cuteness, for whatever value that is."

"If it was too much, what?" Hurley said, chuckling. "You'd rebel or something?"

"I'd go snack on the first baby I could find," Karla said with a laugh. "Because that makes at least as much sense as turning people into frogs or flying on broomsticks and whatever else witches in your world do."

"I don't think there's any real witches in my world," Hurley said, laughing. "Just silly kid stories."

"Which would explain where Lord Shakespeare got such foolish notions about them," Karla said with a haughty sniff.
