Karla looked around and nodded in satisfaction. There was a big glittery banner that said "CONGRATULATIONS TAHIRI!" hung over one wall. She wasn't going to admit it, but playing the glue and glitter and paint had been a lot of fun. Though, with the residual glitter in her hair (and the occasional glittery hand print on the banner), someone might be able to tell.

There was one table completely devoted to ice cream (and wrapped in cold spells). The centerpiece was, of course, a giant ice cream cake with a frosted lightsaber on it. Karla couldn't make any guesses about how accurate it was, but there was a greyish hilt and a ~~I was tempted to say red~~ blue beam coming from the front. It was enough to get the point across, dammit. She'd had to explain to the Chilly Boulder guy what she meant by lightsaber anyway. Though he immediately knew who Ben and Tahiri were. The table wasn't entirely covered by ice cream, as Dinah had mentioned bringing some, too.

It's possible that there may be an ice cream shortage at Chilly Boulder tonight. Sorry.

In the kitchen, there was even more food; this time covered in warming spells. Mostly there were pizzas with a variety of toppings, but she'd also gotten some sides from most of the other restaurants in town. Someone wanted to have pizza with a side of lobster bisque and quesadillas? Totally not a problem. There were also a variety of drinks and, stashed away in the fridge, a few steaks and a chicken--raw, of course--for Blind Seer.

As far as she could tell, everything was done. And if not...well, they could cope. Now the only thing to do was wait for the guests to arrive.

...and try not to cut into the cake before they arrived. It did look good.

"And that's not even counting Professor Skywalker and the other Jedis--Jedi" Karla corrected, reminding herself to maim Ben a little the first time she had a minute, "here. I'm sure that's never confusing."

"It's probably more confusing hearing about it," Jaina said thoughtfully. "Though you seem to have things pretty straight."

"It's taken a lot of explanations," Karla admitted with a grin, handing over Jaina's soda. "Not the least being what Jedi are and why I can't have a lightsaber."

"Oh, so is that the real reason for the cake?" she grinned.

"It's the closest I'll ever get to having one of my own," Karla said, sighing dramatically. "Although I am tempted to hold it hostage and demand Tahiri's or Ben's for ransom. It just might work, even."

She'd seen Ben, at least, devour ice cream like there was a nine year famine going on.

"I hate to break it to you, but if that actually worked I'd have to have a really long talk with them about that before my grandfather got to them," she pointed out. "Or at least hold out for two cakes or something."

"If it actually worked, I'd be too shocked and appalled to try to get away from you when you went to take the lightsaber back," Karla said, shaking her head. "And of course you'd want to have your talk before your grandfather got here. There'd be nothing left by the time he was done!"

She gave Jaina a quick smile. "I have ethics with him. I've seen him in action."

"I'm sorry for whatever he said," Jaina replied immediately, and maybe a little automatically.

Karla laughed. "Oh, I haven't been offended or reduced to tears" yet "so don't worry about me. But then again, I'm used to grumpy, snarky males."

"Then you are a perfect person to deal with the Skywalkers," she said. "Just as long as you never call him that."

"Never where he can hear," Karla promised with a chuckle. "I prefer my ears unblistered."

"Luckily I thiiiink that's a little out of his range of powers," she assured her.

"I have aural shields up anyway," Karla laughed. "Just in case."

Jaina tilted her head. "Aural shields... Those are two words I never thought I'd hear together."

Right. Jaina didn't really know her or her Craft. "I'm a witch," Karla said by way of explanation. "And it makes sense, doesn't it? What good is being invisible if everyone can hear you breathing?"

Well that would make sense. "Good point. Does that mean you can also turn invisible?" She wanted o be able to turn invisible.

A simple yes would have sufficed. But that wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun. So, insteadm Karla smiled and raised a sight shield. And an aural shield.

After about a minute, she lowered her shields again. Now she was holding a plate with several slices of pizza on it. "Would you like one?" she asked, holding the plate out to Jaina.

Jaina laughed, reaching for a piece. "You just like doing that, don't you?"

"Best. Thing. Ever," Karla said with a grin. "Though, back home, using Craft isn't a big deal. Everyone has it, so using Craft to float over a plate and a drink is just as normal as actually getting up and getting it." She shrugged. "I mean, yeah, sometimes I show off, but most of the time, I'm using Craft because it doesn't occur to me not to."

"Though, that was definitely showing off," she added with a laugh.

"I was like that when I first got here. Where I come from, everyone knows who I am and what I can do," she said, and she did mean everyone, "so it wasn't until I had to explain it to someone that I ever really had to think about it. And then yeah, might as well give them a show."

"It's tough, growing up in the public eye, isn't it?" Karla knew all about that, too. "At home, we didn't have your holo-thingies and my family isn't famous galaxy-wide, but I was the daughter of the Territory Queen. Everything I did reflected on the family. Which was probably why I wasn't allowed to go to most big events after I learned to talk."
