Ben was tired of staring at the four walls of his room, and had already spent a fairly unhealthy amount of time in the salle and in the gym working out some aggravation, so...common room.

He was flipping channels, looking for something that was exploding. He was currently cruising through the public access channels, so it could be a while.

"Nah," she said, making herself comfortable. "I think I'm over it already. I'd rather not embarrass myself there."

It was bad enough she felt she should apologize to Chuck. Yeah.

Ben blinked. "Really? Why?"

Because she kind of believed Chuck. "I can't see my mom ever being some clueless little ingenue, can you? Besides, the more anyone tells her no, the more she's going to want to go against it. I know how that works," said Jaina. As evidenced by a certain deleted portion of an E-mail, la. "She can handle herself."

"But it's icky," Ben said maturely.

"Uh huh. And yet really about on the same scale of weird as you dating Tahiri or Grandfather marrying Rory or me dating whoever I'm not dating where you people are." She'd never actually figured out how all the other Jainas' weird love lives worked out.

"But she's old and has been married forever, and John is way better than everyone you date at home," Ben said. "No one here comes close to be as astral as Uncle Han."

Someone was still a little hero-worshippy about their uncle.

She nodded. "And she'll figure that out when she meets him a couple years down the road."

He smiled wryly at her. "That's not the version of the story I heard."

[solo_sword]

"Well, okay, a couple years after that. But it's still pretty much game over at that point, and don't try to shoot down my very good point," she said, wishing she had anything to throw at him that wouldn't mean losing precious hydration.

"Which is that until Aunt Leia meets Uncle Han, we'll get to watch her date all of the gross guys in high school?" Ben replied, making a face.

[solo_sword]

"Maybe. Look, I have to live next to her, I'm going to stay calm and save myself the premature grays," she reasoned.

Ben had blocked out all memory of being in Tahiri's room when Jaina was next door (it had taken time but yes), but he still looked a little weirded out. "You're going to stay calm?"

Okay, with maybe a bit of teasing.

"As much as I possibly can," she said. "This is me, after all."

"That's why I was checking," Ben said. "I was worried you might've added another vowel to your name."

[solo_sword]

"My name doesn't need more vowels," Jaina said. "Look at it this way: I only have to put up with this for five more months. The rest of you, however? Good luck." La.

"Should we start a pool for when Granddad's head pops off?" Ben asked.

[solo_sword]

"I think he'll burst an artery first," Jaina considered. "Getting up there in age and all. I actually don't envy Chuck when it comes to him."

"He does the same thing about Tahiri," Ben said, making another face. "I think we're supposed to be permanently four or something."

Beat.

"Not that Aunt Leia should be dating."

"Obviously we're too late for that." In all honestly, Jaina thought she could get away with not minding dates. If there was a relationship, she might lose her mind. "Besides, I was her age when I started dating. Oh, I just really said that about my mother."

"Ewww," Ben said. Helpfully.
