As Mat had mentioned a few times, Mat couldn't cook with modern technology. But roasting things over a fire?

That, he could do.

So there he was, bundled in a few layers, roasting a few rabbits over the fire and feeling more homesick than he was willing to admit.

Mirax was not pleased by today, no. Bundled up and carrying a blanket with her, she announced, "It could be worse. There could be a fire drill."

"There's a happy thought," Mat commented. "At least this time I'd be fully dressed."

"While that'd be less pretty I'm sure your extremities will thank you," she decided, finding a seat to curl up in for warmth. "It's nice that there seem to be blankets everywhere but the heat won't magically turn on."

"Maybe the island is trying to make me feel at home," Mat said. "No lights, no heat, no television? This is what I'm used to. We just need someone to juggle and tell stories."

"I've seen you juggle. You can do that," she decided. "And it's nice if that's what Fandom's up to, but it owes the rest of us."

"Well, I'll juggle if you'll tell a story," Mat said.

"Once upon a time there was a dorm full of students that suddenly found themselves without heat and power," Mirax said, not even pausing to think about it. "They sat around and waited for it all to come back for a while, at least until they decided to do something more proactive and braved the snow and freezing cold in order to hunt down those responsible, and the activity kept them surprisingly warm enough to survive the night. The end. Make with the juggling."

"The gleeman I know would cry into his bloody ale to hear that tale," Mat teased, walking over to the counter and picking up three apples, then beginning to juggle.

"Do you think anyone would actually leave the dorms?" Jonas asked, giving her a nod and smile instead of a wave. His hands were tucked deep into his pockets.

"When the fire would keep us nice and toasty warm? Probably not for a while, anyway," she decided. "Enjoying the freezing cold, are we?"

"I've never been this cold in my life." And he'd nearly died of hypothermia once before. "Are you doing well?"

"I'm having fun complaining," Mirax admitted. "I think it's keeping me warm."

"You're not from a cold weather environment either?" he asked, even if it was an obvious sort of question.

"Corellia is extremely temperate," she explained. So says Wookieepedia. "So if it gets super hot in the summer, I won't be happy about that, either, but this is now."

"I didn't think it could snow this hard," he said and laughed at his obviously wrong assumption. "At least there's a fire? The electricity being on would have made things easier. And prevented any possible boredom."

"Exactly. If you want to take away our heat, that's one thing, but the electricity, too? That's just kicking us when we're down."

"And you haven't come up with any good ideas for entertainment?" Jonas asked, teasing a bit.

"See, now, that's just tempting fate," Bobby felt compelled to point out.

"Oh, don't say that. We've already got no heat and no power, no one's mean enough to make us have to stand outside in the middle of the night for hours with this," she said, really really hoping that was true.

"Probably not," Bobby admitted. "Of course, our chances of having an actual fire-related emergency in the dorms just went up exponentially," he said, with a nod at the fire.

Mirax frowned at the fire. "At least we'll go warm?"

"And there's something to be said for the company I find myself in, too," he added with a grin.

"Aww. I'd smile more at that but my teeth chattering isn't cute," she teased.

"I dunno, if anyone could manage to make such a thing cute it'd probably be you."

That definitely got more of a smile out of her. "How was that?"
