As Mat had mentioned a few times, Mat couldn't cook with modern technology. But roasting things over a fire?

That, he could do.

So there he was, bundled in a few layers, roasting a few rabbits over the fire and feeling more homesick than he was willing to admit.

Oh like anything could've stopped Bobby from going outside today.

Unfortunately, the grumbling of his stomach did eventually bring him back inside. And led him back up to his floor's common room, where he could smell something cooking.

He flopped down on a couch, snowflakes still clinging to his hair. "What's for dinner?" he asked.

"Roasted meat," Mat said, grinning over at him. "Enjoy your time outside?"

"Having fun?" Dinah teased him, heading over to the cabinet and looking for cocoa mix. "I think our video game tournament's canceled due to weather. How bizarre is that?"

Hayley wandered down a floor and then into the common room, bundled up with a blanket draped over her.

"What's goin' on in here?" she asked, mostly out of just curiosity.

"I'm knitting a sweater," Mat deadpanned, spinning the meat over the fire.

Leia wandered into the common room with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. "What happened to the heat? Why is it so cold?" she bitched complained.

"I have no bloody idea, but I think the snow probably has something to with it," Mat said helpfully. "The fire's warm."

"Storm knocked the power out," Bobby supplied helpfully, looking up at the sound of Nerf-eating-girl's voice.

"That's what I've been wonderin'," Hayley said. "I'm guessing it was the storm. Probably."

For someone not accustomed to extreme differences in weather temperatures, the shock of the cold was enough to almost make Jonas burrow back into his bed. But, it didn't get any better so he'd wrapped himself in his clothes, scarf and stocking cap before padding down to the common room.

The heat was welcome and Jonas gave a simple, quick nod to those inside. "Hello. I think it might be colder in here than outside."

"It's not," Bobby said easily. "Just seems that way 'cause you're used to inside being warmer. Shock to the system, or something."

"Come closer to the fire and less near the windows," Mat counseled.

Mirax was not pleased by today, no. Bundled up and carrying a blanket with her, she announced, "It could be worse. There could be a fire drill."

"There's a happy thought," Mat commented. "At least this time I'd be fully dressed."

"Do you think anyone would actually leave the dorms?" Jonas asked, giving her a nod and smile instead of a wave. His hands were tucked deep into his pockets.

"See, now, that's just tempting fate," Bobby felt compelled to point out.

Without the usual background noise electricity engendered, it was easy to follow the sounds of people and the smell of roasting meat to the third floor. Roy was freakin' hungry in addition to being cold, after all. He was wearing assorted layers topped off with an 'Archers do it with feathers' sweatshirt, and he was still cold. Dammit.

Oooh, fire.

"Hey, what's cooking?"

"Rabbit," Mat said with a smile. "There's plenty."

Despite the cold, Mirax would manage a smile here. "Nice sweatshirt." Not that she knew many archers where she came from.

Something smelled beyond good, and there was only so long you could huddle under all the covers from both beds in your room and eat cold chocolate oatmeal cookies and rice krispy treats. Which is why there was a Francine with a blanket wrapped around her following her nose downstairs to the common room.

Oh, and a fuzzy baby bunny wrapped in yet another blanket.

"What're you cooking? It smells delicious."

This would go well.

"I...forgot to ask." That was probably for the best, all things considered. "It's not chocolate."

Because that would narrow it down for her so much. Jonas tried, he did.

Another nap over under about five comforters, another dose of Tylenol taken. So Dinah shuffled down to the Common Room with an afghan around her shoulders to see if there was food available, Gameboy in hand. She sniffed the air, then wandered over to check on Mat's efforts. "Rabbit?"

"HI Dinah! You feeling any better today?" Momoko waved a gloved hand at her from where she was still warming herself by the fire.

While electricity was a pleasant luxury, Morgana hadn't reached the point where she'd gotten so used to it that she couldn't stand to be without it. A length of fur over her shoulders was all she needed to be comfortable, but the sight of the fire still drew her in almost as much as the smell did. "Oh, that smells wonderful," she said, coming in and taking a seat.

"Hey, Morgana." Dinah waved from where she was sipping her cocoa, huddled into a couple afghans. "Fur. Now, why don't I have any fake furs to snuggle into?"

"Does anyone know when they're going to fix the power?" Momoko poked her head into the common room, then rushed closer to the fireplace that she'd never ever noticed before but wasn't going to complain about. She was wearing her heaviest sweater and coat but it was still cold! "And is it okay for a cat to sleep under two blankets? Mmmm. Is that food for sharing?"

Just when he was wondering if he should make another run for food, the smell of food caught his nose again. Really, it was one way to draw in all the boys and girls.

"Think you're going to have enough for everyone?" Jacob asked. He ate a lot after all.

"Depends," Mat said. "How much do you eat?"

Tara had spent most of the day burrowed under blankets with her spellbooks and Kennedy the hedgehog, but around dinnertime she smelled roasting meat and, reluctantly, emerged, hedgehog riding in the pouch on her hooded sweatshirt.

"Something smells really good," she announced.

"It's not chocolate." That was about all Jonas had because he still didn't know what Mat was cooking. "Which is almost unfortunate because now I'm craving chocolate."

Jonas paused.

"Hello." That was what he'd forgotten, yes.
